The Going Home Face

Post by Len90 » Jul Wed 23, 2008 2:45 pm

I guess the title says it all. On going home day, my family and I walked through the our hotel lobby (Yacht Club) and were greeted by the greeter. He asked which park we were off to and we just looked up. He then realized and exclaimed oh no don't tell me you are going home. You have the going home face on.

That got me thinking, do any of you have that face when you leave Disney to go home. Just come on and admit we can all shed a tear or two when we leave. I know I did.

Oh yeah, I always hate the last day of the vacation...Especially when you also run into the people just checking in on that day and you see the excitement face that you expressed yourself not that long ago. It's so hard, I get kind of depressed for a few days afterwards.
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

I have cried before. Lame, I know. I've sat on the airplane and cried. Leaving Disney is such a terrible feeling. All of the emotions of being at such a magical place really weigh down on you when you have to leave the fantasy.
No fear hath ye of evil curses, says you.
Arrrrrr.
Properly warned ye be, says I.

I thought that was just me! But on the other hand, when we're checking in and I see people packing up and leaving, I'm like, "Haha. Our vacation is just beginning."

I always like to go to the Magic Kingdom on my last day there... and the part that gets me every time is when we walk under the train station and there's a bunch of cast members on the platform with the "see ya real soon" signs. It gets me all teary eyed.

I miss the Yacht Club... it's the only resort where the greeter where ask where you're off to (every single morning).

As for the going home face, I try not put one on.

My going home face is usually a look of exhaustion as I have tried to pack in twice as much as I probably should have.

the worst going away home face was my last day on the CP. The takeoff, I just couldnt stop crying. I sat in the back of the plane which I never do and I talked to the people next to me that I just finished the CP, so they understood why I was crying. It was actually funny too because I found out that the guy worked with my mom (talk about a small world!)

I guess my going home face is just blank. I don't say much.

Okay let me explain my going home face is just a look of shock, denile and sadness. Of course I can't leave out the tears upon takeoff. The worst being if you takeoff in the right direction you get a glimpse of WDW. This happened once or twice and was the worst.

Chesire, you have it right. Everyday the Yacht Club greeter would ask us where we were off to.

We do Magic Kingdom on our last day, as our flights are about 6.30pm. We make sure we are packed and ready to go, leave our luggage at the resort, and head off early.

Everyone tries to squeeze in their favourite rides, then walk ever so slowly down Main Street drinking in as much of the atmosphere as we can. Our last stop is the Candy Store on the corner to buy Disney Goodies.

xcv We then walk to the middle of Town Square, have one last look up Main Street at the majestic castle, everyone has a very deep sigh, then the tears start rolling. The bus ride back to our resort is usually a chat about where we'll stay next time.

Our going home face isn't that bad because we know we'll be back.

last year i left early in the morning and as much as i hate to say it...it was the easiest way to leave the World without the sadness. I usually get a late leave and end up at the airport for hours watching all the new visitors arrive. I have a feeling this year will be different since its my third year in a row going to Disney. well the cruise two weeks after will help too.

I'm so glad I don't have to take a plane to get to WDW. For some reason, it seems like it would be a lot harder to leave that way. When we leave, we know that we're a short (7 hour) drive away

Just the thought of going back to reality is enough for me to get my going home face on. When we drive it's 20 hours so I have a lot of time to reflect on the vacation.
