Disney's Asian Themed Hotel

Post by netslave » Jul Wed 23, 2008 9:24 am

Listening to the monorail track from the early days of WDW, they said something about an asian themed resort being planned.

I found out the info from here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_Asian_Resort

Man, that would have been cool. Think they'll ever bring these ideas back up?

I know, I found a picture of the original master plan for MK and the seven seas lagoon.

Would have been nice to have the Monorail run through the park.

Man, how many hotel projects on the lagoon have they scrapped over the years? Disney's Asian Resort, Disney's Venetian Resort, Disney's Persian Resort, Disney's Mediterranean Resort...

I would have liked to see a Venetian resort. Then again, it probably would end up being gaudy.

From the looks of the mastern plan I posted, there have only been two locations that did not have resorts materialize. According to the website netslave posted the one location was scrapped because the ground was not stable enough. Of course that was drawn up when EPCOT was going to be an acctual city. That would have been awesome had it actually happened.

more info here

Interesting excerpt:
The positioning of the Asian on this side of the lagoon was in keeping with a school of thought that seems to have been dismissed by the early 1980s...that hotels on the Seven Seas Lagoon would serve as extended backdrops for the lands on the southern side of the Magic Kingdom. The Contemporary sits behind Tomorrowland, the Polynesian behind Adventureland. The Asian would also fall behind Adventureland, helping to maintain a broad but subtle sense of order.

Wow that is very interesting. It makes sense with the Contemporary because the view of it is a major part of the Astro Orbiter.

That's incredible. Just another example of what makes Disney World Disney World.

Never thought of the resorts that way, modelling after the 'lands" in the MK - very cool.

Do you think that came into play when the Grand Floridian went up in relation to the others resembling the Main Street theme?

An asian themed resort would be incredible. Its a perfect theme, I hope one day they bring the plan back. Its cool to look all these resort plans that I did not know about. An Asian theme would have amazing architecture, and restaurants. I hope when the time comes that once they've built enough value resorts, that they will use this theme for their next big, impressive hotel.

Not at all. One of the points he made was they don't do this sort of detail any more.

Those look like awesome themes for hotels. Would have been nice to see them built, but I suppose there's always hope for them to be built in the future in some way. (ie. not necessarily a MK area resort, or slightly alter the theme, who knows?)

I would have loved to see either an Asian resort or even a Venetian resort. Those would have been beautiful as the finishing result.

I would have loved to see the Venetian resort. Venice is unlike any other place in the world.
