Dinner: Impossible (Food Network)

Post by jcodirewolf » Jul Sat 05, 2008 9:16 pm

So I saw the new D:I episode on Food Network? And without ruining it for people. Chef Irvine, was at Disney World, for the "Dreamers Academy" having to make dinner for ~350 guests. They had 4 kids from the program, 1 Epcot Chef and 1 Guest Chef.

But it's a fun show if you've not caught it. You get to see the Epcot Events Kitchen.

I'll have to look for that one, thanks for the heads-up. The old version was hit-and-miss at best.

I saw it and it it was pretty cool! The best part was that I got to see what was behind those doors in WS. Every time I walk by I say, "Hmm, I wonder what's behind those doors." Now I know. Good times.

I was sorta surprised I went on google earth's 3-d disney, to show my wife where it was, and google earth has that whole area covered with trees.

In other news apparently D:I is now going to be hosted by the new Iron Chef America Michael Symon.

I was pretty surprised by the show that the Disney PR people didn't do a better job controlling the content. It really made the Disney kitchen staff seem incompetent. The food showed up two and a half hours later when it was promised in an hour. And did you catch that the clue card said 'World Showplace"? Disney PR is so amazing at controlling their brand, I couldn't believe that they would allow their kitchens to be seen as out-of-control. But maybe that was just the impression I got.

"World showPLACE" I was wondering about that. I was thinking it was someone trying to be cute with the clue.

I know when I was watching the clues part of the show, I was like "IF you want to go to pirates you are walking on the WRONG side of the castle." :)

And I did find it surprising that the food from the Land SHOWED up first. I was very confused by everything, The Land which is near by (Take a look at Google Maps to see JUST how close) but it didn't sound like the food had been picked but it must have. And the food coming from the warehouse took like 3 hours to arrive. After the Epcot Chef was like "Tell me what you want and it will be here in an hour."

Makes me wonder if it wasn't done to make it more dramatic. I've always wondered how staged that show was. Makes me think that maybe it was more staged than I suspected.

I saw part of the Pixar cakes one. Watched about 1/2 of without sound (my wife was trying to solve a family problem so I had to sit there listening to her on the phone and watching the pixar cakes.)

I have to say I've never seen an episode where the winner was so clear.

Yes, it seemed like PR dropped the ball. Normally on shows they make it look like the parks have people, but are not over crowed. This show made it look like a ghost town.
They maybe shouldn't have used private shuttles. It makes it look like you have to pay to go from park to park. They could have used to the ferry from Hollywood studios to World showcase. This would have been the fastest way and showed off the transportation system in a great light.
The host seemed very disrespectful to the disney chef. The disney chef was trying to teach the kids, and the host was only concerned about the "mission."
The Disney unwrapped and the travel channel season of Disney shows were a lot better.

I'll have to catch it.

The format of the show is a great concept. Too bad chef Irvine is a phoney that lied on his resume.

Lets hope they recast the show comes back.

I watched it a few days ago and the only part that was exciting for me was in the beginning when he was running around the parks looking for his next clue and when they went to the Land for produce. Other than that they were stuck in a kitchen without food for most of the episode. Good cause though.

They did a mini marathon last Saturday where they showed all of the Disney Challenges, so I don't know when they will be playing them again. However, since they seem to be running Food Network Challenge shows in general more and more, you're bound to see it sometime in the near future. Maybe you can catch them on On Demand if you have it...
