There are all sorts of rumors flying about. The latest one I heard is that its closing in January of 2009 to be refurbished for a year.

i think that they will close the ride considering the fact that they closed the one in disneyland but the renovation was great because the ride ended up to be more smoother and the new soundtrack was good too.

I have heard rumors about this as well and think it would be AWESOME if they would go through with it. The ride as it is has a very 1970's feel to it. I have heard wonderful things about the upgrade in Disneyland!! It would be great to have the track smoother and scenery updated, a new soundtrack might not be a bad idea either.

Rumors have been flying around about a SM rehab for the past few years, although more and more evidence seems to point toward it happening in the foreseeable future. Seeing what they've done with the DL version makes it logical that it's coming sooner rather than later. Better grab your FastPass quickly. 8-)

I like Space Mountain as it is. Don't we already have an upgraded Space Mountain? (It's called Rock'n Roller Coaster.)

I think this is a shame if they close it. I love the way it is.

Amen. It's different if there's only one good roller coaster in the enitre resort, but WDW does have other 'updated' rides. Space Mountain still holds the same amount of excitement for me as it always has. My nieces and nephews were/are scared to go on it as it is now. There's no reason to change it completely.

If they want to 'plus' it, fine. Re build it? No way!

It breaks down quite frequently. Maybe it's time for a major shut down and over haul. At least of the operating system.

I have also read many many many rumors about space mountain. From a minor up grade to removing parts of the roof to make track modifications. At this points its all alot of fluff.

I would like to see them up grade the cars.. those things are brutal to get in/out of unless you are 12. They also need to beef up the effects and add a soundtrack.

hahahaha seeing that the current space shuttle still uses 20 year old software and is considered a major technology feat. but i think the real reason is for the "accidents" that have or could have happened

I have heard that rumor as well. It is about time. WDW's Sapce Mountain is the only one that hasn't been refurb'd. It's time they update the ride. Although, nothing is really being said about the refurb in the official circles (at least that I know of). It is all still speculation and rumor.

i wouldn't be surprised if it was shutdown for a revamp

the last time i went on, about 7 months ago, i got caught in a shutdown period of about 50 minutes because of some mech. problem on the track. i waited on the line (on one of the loading dock areas) for the repair to be done

i guess if they were to shut it down, it would be to prevent more frequent delays and make for a smoother operation day
