What is Disney Thinking?

Post by jcodirewolf » Feb Fri 22, 2008 12:17 pm

Does anyone see how this new scheme fixes the problem it's suppose to address?

Change to EMH

It sounds like you only have to get your card out to get on an attraction. So how does that keep you from "hanging out"? It sounds like the only things it fixes, is no more wristband hand outs, cuts the cost of wristbands and the CM handing them out. And prevents guest from seeing who should be in the park and who shouldn't.

How the heck are they going to do this??????? If they have all the CM's at each ride check the cards that will add at least 10 minutes to any line! Try checking at night over in adventure land and see how easy it is. BAH! I say, BAH! And your right jcodirewolf how would this stop guests that just decide to hang around, which is what I tend to do when I'm there at night. They would still have to do the sweeps to find most of those people.

This is an absolutely awful idea. It is definitely going to make the problem much worse, rather than better.

I like how they are going to "test" it for like a week. Like all the managers aren't going to be making sure EVERY single cast member at the attractions are doing it properly and everything is going smoothly...for that week.

The problem of guests "lingering" isn't just for EMH. We've had the same issues at the parties (P&P, MNSSHP, MVMCP), too.

What happened to the way they used to kick people out? They would close the park and kick everyone out. Then, if there were an after-hours event, they would reopen the park to people with wristbands, and those people alone. That's what we did when I worked at MK. I don't know why they stopped that.

I agree. I fail to see how this method will makes things smoother. The last time we were at the World, they had CMs posted at different intervals, asking us to raise our hands and show our wristbands. From what I could tell, they were dealing with guests who failed to do so as well. Now, this was only from that one experience, but to me, it seemed like the wristbands were doing their job. I'm baffled why they think they need to change it.

Ridiculous! I don't really like wearing the wrist band but I love EMH and making guests show their room key every time they want to go on a ride is a total waist of time. It'll just cause longer lines and more headaches for everyone involved.

Oh strange! I really have a feeling that after awhile the "glances" would become lax & someone could just flash any old expired Keys to the Kingdom card. They all pretty much look the same now anyway.

Not a huge fan of the neon EMHs bracelets but I thought it was fairly effective.

Speaking of which, has anyone ever noticed a trend lately of teenagers "collecting" as many EMHs bracelets & wearing them on their whole trip. I've noticed this on more than several groups of teens & families the past couple trips. I saw one girl with AT LEAST 10 of all different colors on one arm (like the 80's rubber bracelettes )

I don't see how this idea makes sense at all. For one, you're forcing guests to pull out their cards over and over (and their children's cards, etc.), which is really anti-courtesy. The bigger problem I see is that, unless the CMs waiting at every entrance to every rides are going to read each card carefully to check the date on it, there's nothing stopping someone from using an expired room key (from an earlier trip, from ebay, whatever). I realize the card design tends to change a little year to year, but a year's a pretty big window to get yourself a fake.

I really think that was the best way to do it. Or like on e-ride nights, where you got your wrist band and then they kind of corralled you for a while in one land while the masses left. That was a much cleaner system; yes there were still stragglers but I remember clearly the 'everyone raise your hands' thing that HSolo mentioned. That's a heck of a lot easier than 'please stand in this long line while we card you and then explain to people without cards why they have to leave while you wait behind them'.

Hopefully their test will be enough to demonstrate that to them.

Edit before posting: I see WishUponaStar and I think alike - us devious types and our old cards.

As many have said before this just does not make sense. The days of moving everyone with wristbands to tomorrowland until everyone else left I thought worked well. Having to pull out your card every time to get on a ride raises the chance of losing it. I can't imagine what it would be like for a family of 4 or 5 where the parents have to keep with the kids cards. :?

They aren't going to check and scan cards at every attraction. Not in the long-run. That system is too inefficient. People will use old cards, just like everyone says.

I've had to complain at Guest Relations before about people being able to enjoy the benefits after-hours without a wristband. More than once, I have witnessed CMs (most likely CPs) letting guests without a wristband on the attraction for which I am standing in line and telling them they'll need to go get one later.

And that's when they even bothered to ask to see a wristband in the first place.

Universal does this for their hotel guest fast pass system. They print the date that the cards are active for in very large print. They also have card scanners to scan them (which they sometimes use). For the number of people who use the EMH, this may be better in the long run because the cards are already being made (while bracelets are an extra continuous cost).

The system to scan cards may be a more expensive initially, but once they are running, it may be cheaper (assuming that there is a radio/wireless infrastructure to allow the scanners to communicate to a server).

why does it have to be CPs? most of the time they work harder than fulltimers since they get rid of us so easily.

I can't imagine what it would be like to lug around the cards for your entire party if you have kids. What a pain it would be to have to whip all of those out every time. Can you imagine the number of people who will drop theirs or otherwise lose track of it in the process?
