Just wondering if anyone here has been married at WDW or planning one? Has anyone been to a wedding at WDW?

I have not been to a wedding or been married at WDW, but this sounds like it would be fun.

I was wondering what type of experiences ya'll have had.

I have not been to one (much less been in one).

But I have watched ahows about them on Travel Channel and Food Network!

I did see someone on a forum (I believe it was Mice Chat) who said that his WDW wedding was the one time he ever felt ripped off by Disney. But he didn't provide any details.

I think it would be an awesome place to get engaged, married, honeymoon and anniversary at.. Then celebrate birthdays, and any holiday at.

WDWANNABE: I know there are quite a few Subsonic listeners that have honeymooned and had anniversaries there, but I am not sure about weddings. Maybe someone will have better info for you. Are you planning on getting married there?

Did you do a search in the posts to see if there was wedding info on here in another area that might have some info?

If you want details I was "married" at Disney. I say "married" because we are Roman Catholic and we got Married in Downtown Orlando the night before, since the wedding pavilion isn't a Church you can't get Married there. And for those keeping score you can't get Married at Mary Queen of the Universe either, it's a shrine (you must be atleast as tall as a church to have a wedding.)

At anyrate, what we did was we had the service at the Wedding Pavilion, and the reception at the California Grill. My wife road in Cindy's Coach, we use Disney for the photography, DJ, Catering, floral, and transportation. The event was flawless from the POV of the guests. Being the ones arraigning it was a nightmare, I've planned bigger events than a wedding with 110 people at it, and in my opinion Disney could take a few pointers from Marriott.

Now several things I'm sure went into this. First off my wife and I were on a budget, we got married when we where about 40, so this was a hard budget (the money was coming from our pockets) so I think we where a bit more conscience of the cost/value ratio. Second at the time they where "switching" from a paper based system to a web based system. Third, had we VERY high expectations of how nice and easy it was going to be. Finally, I think any one or two problems we had I wouldn't even remember them... but it was a very bumpy road with little problems.

Because I was dreaming..... I actually looked into this. I highly recommend getting the materials from Disney and looking at the options. The web-based service is pretty informative and you can access all the pricing, etc.

I saw a TV special once that said the average marriage at the Wedding Pavillion was $19,000. Also, just read the other day that around 30% of the weddings were for people from Japan.

$19k for how many people and when? We had 70 people and we where well over that.

The wedding pavilion a few years ago was pretty much the only site. You can do it inside the parks, but then it gets REALLY expensive with tickets for the guests and hiring CM to act as escorts.

I wasn't really that specific about the price. The TV special actually said that $19k was the average that people spent on the weddings in the pavillion, they didn't actually say that is the average required amount. Sorry, if I mislead about that. If that's the average, then I'm sure that means that some people spend less.

i was going to get married at GF, but mother-in-law shot that down. She's pyaing for the entire wedding so I couldn't argue.

But we are having hidden mickeys on the cake, and a few other hidden disney icons!

jco, i didn't know you had your wedding there, or that you're Catholic...cool!

i had no idea Mary Queen of the Universe shrine didn't let people get married...what a shame! that place is huge...it's so pretty there, too...with all the fountains and lakes, etc. i guess since it's not a parish, they just can't accomodate weddings and all.

wannabe, my hubby and i are planning to renew at disney (even though we're Catholic, since we're already married it's ok to renew outside of a church) and are planning to have it as big as a wedding (our real wedding about 2.5 years ago and was rushed and very small). hopefully that will be in a couple of years. when we do, one thing's for sure: we're definitely getting cinderella's coach, the fireworks, and 3 characters (mickey, minnie, and, of course, stitch!)

for people wanting to know the costs and many of the detail choices, disney wedding's wishbook helps a lot! it's free and helps you pick everything you want at the ceremony and reception, and lists the costs.

Yea I don't know the rules for vow renewal. But getting "married" has to be at a "Church", "Shrines" aren't tall enough.

You know the characters can't come to the wedding, only to the reception. and they are very expensive (if you ask me) $750/30 minutes, clock starts when they leave the dressing area.

I'd post the link to the pictures, but... that machine is turned off and packed into a box in the living room. Maybe this weekend I'll get it back up.

jco, renewals can be just about anywhere (obviously nowhere that a priest would think is morally awful...but i doubt many Catholic people are aching to renew at those kind of places lol). my parents renewed their vows at a friends' house.

yea, i know the deal on the characters and the other stuff, too. chris and i talked to a wedding planner a year or so ago so we knew how much we'd have to save up.

yea, a lot of the stuff like the characters is expensive, but i figure those extra things would be the reason why we'd be renewing so far from home, and would be once-in-a-lifetime experiences and chances for pictures.

lemme know when you have pics! it'll be exciting to see them! it must have been awesome! i wanna know all the details lol
