Turtle Talk

Does anyone have some behind the scenes insight (or maybe a link to an article) that describes the technology behind Turtle Talk With Crush? I find that attraction absolutely amazing and wonder how it's done.

While I don't have any links to the specifics. But I'm 99% sure I know what the tech behind it looks like...

It's basiclly a puppet show. The person running Crush uses a rig that looks a lot like a conventional puppet without "flesh" on it. That tracks the hand/arm movements and a computer does the rest, the room has cameras in it so he can see the audience.

Yeah i don't think they have released the specifics but I would have to agree with wolf. I'm guessing that "Turtle Talk with Crush" is a sophisticated program that combines 3-D computer generated graphics with puppetry and acting, and may rely on motion capture technologies. It's much like a ventriloquist controlling a dummy, but in this case, the "dummy" is a real-time computer-animated character. This technology is the same type they use in video games to capture realistic motion. They are just doing it real time.

Cool stuff

...hint my monday article is going to be on this theme ...shh
