Only negative is that the ride will probably be closed for over a year.

That's what happened when Space Mtn. at Disneyland was closed for refurb. They rebuilt the entire track, and it was closed for quite a long time.

The music in the star tunnel queue is indeed great. But the queue itself could be livened up a little. Keep the music, but add something more to see while waiting.

That is too funny - that's what firends and I have always said too! Some milk would be nice to go with the cookies!

The Disney cast members are saying that they are hearing the closing would be from anywhere around 4 months to 8 months and that Disney is wavering on how long and how much they want to do at once, because they don't want to have it down 8 months at one time. So, maybe it will be done in installments. Even Disney isn't sure what they want to do about that yet.

Update: According to Guest Relations at Magic Kingdom, its indeed in their plans to close Space Mountain to refurbish it, but they have no idea when--the leaders of the park have yet to tel any of the cast members or the managers...

Early January of 2009 is when SM will be shut. The refurb should include substantial track replacement, new trains, and new effects along with new load and unload stations.
