Spaceship Earth Soft Opening

Post by Cosmic Commando » Dec Tue 04, 2007 9:32 pm

I've been reading on other sites that the soft opening for Spaceship Earth will take place in middle of this month. This is according to MagicalMountain.net. I don't know how true it is or what their source is, but it seems promising.

Can someone tell me what to look for to know that there is a soft opening please? Is there usually a cast member in front of the ride or a sign or is it really "soft" and practically unoticeable that the ride is open? I just don't want to miss it if there are going to be soft openings.

Okay, don't tempt me to go to Epcot everyday.

For resent openings for attractions, first there is a AP/DVC opening (which I've not seen an announcement of yet.) Then the soft opening means you can queue up for the attraction, if they aren't having an operational issue (soft openings are used train the operators, and work out kinks in like load procedures. So it doesn't have to be a serious issue for it not to be open during soft open, it can be as simple as they are having a training session and want to be able to start/stop the attraction.) It's normally still listed as non-operational/closed in the calendar. But when you walk by it it might be open. If the big blue walls are still up it's not soft open yet. Also from my experience it's more likely to be operational weekdays during normal business hours (So M-Th open-4pm.)

For shows being soft opened, it's a lot more tricky you have to basically "hang out" waiting. I didn't make any of the soft open for the Laugh floor. But the stories I heard where you had to pretty much just stand around on a week day waiting for the Imagineers to decide to run a show.

As for Nemo which we did get into a soft opening of we happened to be talking to a CM. He asked us if we had been to the Nemo show, and we told him with it being soft open and all we had tried 3-4 times and either the show was full or canceled. At that point he said "When would you like to see it?" And he called someone and got our name onto the VIP seating. Turns out that was HIS show, he managed the show, and was over in MK babysitting some of the Nemo puppets for a TV thing.

Now with all that said. SSE has taken longer to open then they had planned, the original reopening date was Nov. We are getting close to the busiest time at Disney, the week from Christmas to New Years is the MOST busy. So if things are in place, and they have trained operators, they might just throw the doors open without a DVC/AP weekend.

At this point anything they open will take pressure off everything else.

wow... thanks for all that information jcodirewolf! :D

This is getting me really hopeful, especially with that info about the holiday season. It's too bad we're not staying at the yacht club so we could check up on it every morning.  I'll probably be hanging around epcot the most this visit though, just in case.

I have only been to two soft openings in my life at WDW, one was Mission Space. It was before the press days and also back when it was 2g's instead of the 1.8g's it is now. The other was when they opened the Haunted Mansion Movie set in MGM, I think that might have been the same trip but I'm not totally sure. I can remember both very well, Of course I don't go on Mission Space anymore, after it made me sick.

I've only done one soft opening. It was the Cars Race Rally at Walt Disney Studios Paris earlier this year. I haven't done any at WDW, although I did go to the Cast Member Previews of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade last year. I also rode the new Nemo ride at Epcot on its opening day. I had intended to go to the Cast Member Preview of that one, but I was working on that day so couldn't :(
