Holy cow! I'm a big Disney fan but I think it's getting to be insane! For a family of four Disney World is becoming a once in a lifetime vacation. Not a once a month kind of thing. I live only an hour from Disney but I can't afford to go. Disney is becoming a place for the well off and not for the blue collar Americans. It's a shame really, would Walt be able?

For the vast, vast majority of us, the reality is somewhere in between these two extremes.
For my wife and I, we're trying to maintain WDW as a once-every-two-years vacation (for 8-10 days at a time)... it's not too hard right now, I have a good job... but once kids appear, that timeframe will move outward, for sure.
But a $5-$10 ticket price increase just isn't enough to sway us away. Now... the yearly increases on room rates, on the other hand... those suck.

Actually techinically it's 3-6% increase. Been in the papers and news down here all week.

Yeah, we so could not afford to go at those prices. The last time we were there, a one-day ticket was just barely reaching $40 I think.

I have tried to convince my wife to go to the parks every 2 years but she shot that down so I'm going to let her cool down and try for the every 5 years. If she shoots that down I'm in the market for a new wife... jk

I'll just go on my own ... wait ... that might put me in the market for a new wife not by choice... hmm... I need a plan, any suggestions.

This does not have the new price adjustment.

Glad for the tickets with no expiration date I convinced my family to buy!
I really hope they don't keep pushing the prices up. I understand that they need to make money, and of course people are willing to pay. Still, it's sad to see that people can't go because of the high cost.

Money is a funny thing; I remember 10-15 years ago how people used to say Disney (and other attraction parks for that matter) was going to outprice itself and all but ensure that the lower-middle class couldn't afford to go. All I think happens is that they save longer for fewer trips rather than ceasing the vacation at all...

Yeah but how much will the AP go up? Will people be able to afford THEM next year? As much as I love Disney World it's still just a theme park. How much is too much? When do you finally say forget it it's too expensive; lets just go somewhere else for vacation?

That's what nancynohorse and I were talking about last night after I read this thread on the price hike. For as much as we love the parks, in a way, we love how they used to be more as it is (the old school EPCOT, etc). So why would we want to be THAT much money?
Go somewhere quiet and not over-run with tourists.
