Pandas

Alright, I'm brilliant. I've determined the solution to all of Animal Kingdom's attendance problems. Pandas. If they had a panda exhibit in the Asia section, they'd be overwhelmed with popularity. Of course, it would have to be the best panda exhibit ever built and fit into all the theming, but that's a Disney specialty.

So what do you all think?

Pandas would be a good idea, but I also think they need penguins. Penguins would be good too, and as seeing as they are insanely popular right now, it would also help with attendance. But the Pandas would be a constant draw, I have a feeling the penguin thing is about to die out!

Ak has increased in popularity the last few years and its attendance numbers are up. AK needed to add Everest and the Beastly Kingdom would be good cool. AK suffered because when it first opened it was not a "complete" park. You could wizz thru and get the park done in 1/2 day. They are taking steps to fix that. I think they need a night time show. That would be a nice draw.

A night time show would be great, but I think they would have to be careful to not do anything that would frighten or startle the animals, so fireworks are out. I really think they need to put in another coaster, this would attract a lot more people than a rehash of Kali river rapids.

To replace Kali or in addition to?

Rich, good point about the rising attendance and potential Beastly Kingdom. I'd just love to see pandas!

It wouldnt' make much sense to replace Kali. As far as I know its one of the better rides there. They need to replace the Primeval Whirl, that was a complete waste of time. Too short a ride for the length of the line. But Panda's would be a good addition.

I would love to be able to see pandas at AK. Aren't pandas hard to raise in captivity though? I also think they should have added an Australia section, that would really attract crowds to see rare animals like that.

Good one Cheshire, I would love to see some of the rare Australian marsupials. I would also like to see them add a huge reptile house. Some place air conditioned where you can see some of the more dangerous inhabitants of Africa, Asia, and Australia. Maybe do something like the 10 most dangerous snakes in the world. That would be neat.

Beastly Kingdom does need to be added! Adding a section for Australia would be cool. And I like the idea of some indoor animal habitats.

I think a panda exhibit would be great, but it doesn't seem like Disney has added many new animal species since the park opened, so I'm not getting my hopes too high.

Does Disney have a policy about only having animals that were bred in captivity? I thought I heard that once but I can't remember now. That'd make pandas hard to get since I believe they don't breed well in captivity. It'd be a good addition, though, and it'd fit right in with what they already have going in Asia.

I'd really, really like to see them work on the Beastly Kingdom, though. That has a lot of 'meat' for them to work with and I think they could do some really cool things (especially with all the opportunities to work in AA there - dragons, unicorns, sea serpents, etc). I hold out hope the dragon in the logo will one day come to pass. :)

Pandas yay. Kangaroos Koalas etc indeed yes. Slithery repliles, spiders and general creepy crawlies...if you must. Penguins...it would have to be better than the Sea World attraction. Or different...Galapagos penguins perhaps. How about some Scottish wild cats or some european red squirrels? Both becoming endangered.

AK has definitely become more popular/crowded with the addition of Expedition Everest. The typically uncrowded park I grew to love is a thing of the past. I love EE, but miss the days of no crowds.

I'd personally love a Panda exhibit - it's one of the most popular exhibits at the National Zoo in D.C. and they're really fun to watch. Penguins are also really fun to watch - if you've been to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta you've probably seen the interactive penguin exhibit they've got which is a total blast.

I think we'll see some big changes in attendance also once Yak & Yeti opens in October. Now if they'd only begin accepting ADRs.
