Does anyone know if there is a copy of the omnimax film from Horizons still out there?

I don't even remember what the Omnimax movie was.

The Omnimanx movie loop at Horizons started with crystal formations that turned into DNA double helixes, then there was a CG wireframe of the space shuttle that starts with the shuttle launch and the whole frame fills up with smoke from the launch. And I also remember a CG wireframe model of the space station that is in the Space Colony section of the ride.

Hmm - I remember part of it. Dang, it has been a long time since that closed, didn't realize it till now! I think the old Digital Disney site did have a full ride-thru [not great but something] but it kicked the bucket this fall I think.

Was it on the ride? If so, when?

Yep, it sure was on the ride. In fact, Horizons featured TWO OmniMAX dome screens set side-by-side making the largest, large-format movie screen in the world. Twin OmniMAX projectors (positioned underneath the ride path) created a seamless experience as the overhead Omnimover vehicles glided past.

As to where the screens were in the trip, you may recall that you first went past the "Looking Back at Tomorrow" section, which went from the Jules Verne section through the "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" scene, and the blacklight fanciful cityscape that always made me think of the Jetsons.

Then you went through the first of two transition tunnels with shimmering red and purple lighting on black walls where the narrators said blah blah blah... "Tomorrow's horizons are here, today."

The vehicles then turned the corner and entered the first of the two theatres. After this section, you went through the second transition tunnel in which the narrators said blah blah blah... "But let's start off at our place," and you began the second part of the ride, called "Tomorrow's Windows."

Omg I do remember those now. You couldn't really see the ground right?

Right! The projection domes curved below and above you out of view, unless you stood up and hung out of the Omnimover. *shudder*

Gosh Darn that was cool! Man... sucks it's gone. It's so sad to think I'll NEVER ride that again. Or AE, or World Of Motion, or Innerspace... :(

I am producing a DVD series that will help you be able to re-live a little bit of your favorite Horizons Attractions.. These are much better quality than some other people have tried. I posted more info under Horizons Project. Check it out.

I remember that. I miss Horizons I wish they could have kept it. I read on other boards that the building was having problems such as the foundation sinking in the middle. I don't know if that is true but I wish they could have kept horizions znd added Mission Space somewhere else in the park. :mickey:

We'd downloaded a version to watch online. If you google for "horizons tribute" or something like that, you should be able to find it. Of course, it's the entire ride, not just the Omnimax clip.

Would be kinda cool to see that in IMAX again someday...

There used to be a video of the entire ominmax loop on youtube, but it disappeared about a year ago. :(

I've watched my home vacation videos of my family and I and when we taped us on Horizons, when we got to the Omnimax scene, I'm whining about how high we were and how I was scared lol. That's how real it looked in a way...It was even a little better than soarin'
