Disney World Walkways

Post by Blackie Pueblo » Jun Tue 26, 2007 8:14 pm

Hey everyone,

Sorry if this is already a topic. I did a search and couldn't find it. Of course, I have missed it before. Anyway, my wife and I on a spur of the moment decision decided to go to Downtown Disney after a doctor appointment. When we got there we decided to forget DTD and went for a walk.

Today we took the walk way from DTD to Saratoga Springs, then took the bus to MK. We then took the walkway to the Contemporary where we had a quick bite at that little shack by the pool. I love this walkway because you get really close to Space Mountain!

We also took the monorail to the Polynesian and walked to the GF.

OH, I almost forgot. When we first arrived at the MK we took a walk way that we thought was going to lead us to the GF but found it lead us to a dead end! :mickey2: Anyone know about this and/or what is the point? I do know it went past a very secluded beach area that seemed to me like kind of a waste.

On other trips we've taken the walkway by MGM that takes you past the Swan and Dolphin all the way to the Boardwalk.

We love taking some of the walkways to the resorts and just touring around. Does anyone else do this?

We do it from the Boardwalk to Epcot and MGM. The MGM walk is great.

That "dead-end" path was originally supposed to wrap all the way around Seven Seas Lagoon connecting the Resorts and The Magic Kingdom. It was going to be paved in the same tiles with names that are in front of the Magic Kingdom. I'm not sure of the reason it was never finished, but here are my few theories:

- People stopped buying the tiles
- The already existing paths and transportation systems worked well enough and they didn't need another path
- They forgot that the Electrical Water Pageant Canal was in the way
- $$$

I've always wondered what that path was there for.

Being one to love conspiracies, I think it's actually a path to the relocated 20,000 leagues under the sea ride and only SUPER special people get to ride it.

Well, I know that it isn't the lack of interest in brick sales, they've been stopped (officially) and I've only heard rumors about possible lingering sales at upwards of $325 a brick.

I would also assume
-$$$$
-Existing structure works
-Canal

in that order (its always about $$$ in the end isn't it?)

I would think the only way to breach the canal would be a draw-bridge since they use the canal for watercraft access. That would make it cost prohibitative in their eyes.

This sounds like fun. We've walked the Boardwalk area to EPCOT and MGM, but have never walked any of the paths you have talked about. It sounds like a great way to see the grounds, we'll have to do a little exploring next time at WDW. Thank You!!

Thanks Chesire! I forgot the old narration saying the walkway was going to go all the way around the Seven Seas Lagoon. It was funny really. Imagine our surprise when we found this secluded beach like area, then continued on and suddenly there is a bench and on the other side of the bench was a canal! It's quite a walk out and we had no where to go so we had to turn back around and walk back.

The Canal became a major $$$ issue with carrying the walk all the way around.....Great walks from WL towards Ft. Wilderness & River Country.......

I like that FW-WL walk a lot. It's particularly good for burning off breakfast at Trail's End.

At least twice a week I walk at WDW to exercise. There are dozens of trails so it's always fun. Here is a website that shows all the walking/running trails around WDW.

Thanks Lobelto! That site is pretty neat. Unfortunately my wife saw it and I'm fearful she is getting ideas.

I can't believe it! It's finally here! In less than 24 hours we should be at Disney World!

My wife and I like to walk. I think we'll try out some of the paths mentioned here.

Thanks for raising this Blackie. My wife and I almost always walk everywhere if we know there is a path we can use. Some of the replies here have opened up a whole new set of routes to explore.
