As plans progress for MGM.. um to lose the MGM. Kevin Yee has posted a story with some interesting ideas on how they should restructure MGM.. um Pixar Studios :)

What do you think of Kevin's ideas?

While I wouldn't want everything at MGM/whatever studios to turn into Toy Story, I would like the Backlot Tour and Lights, Motors, Action to get torn down and replaced with something actually interesting.

This is the right idea but carries one hefty concern; Pixar has been integrated into the parks at a level that would require removal. Maybe not at a cost that's not recoverable. I'm specifically thinking of the Monster Inc. Laugh Floor in Tomorrowland, it should be relocated to MGM or scrapped.

The Seas with Nemo and Friends? That too would seem like a recent refurb misplaced. Not that there cannot be cross over, certainly you don't only expect to see Mickey in the Magic Kingdom, but huge theme based attractions outside of "Pixar Studios" would seem like overkill.

I agree with the concept and think a Pixar themed area in MGM could do wonders for the park and that giving up on the "working studio" fib is the way to go. I think it may need more than just Star Wars, Pixar and Hollywood Blvd., likely 5 themed areas to really feel like a studio them park, but I'm 85% on board with the ideas.

Looks like a well thought out plan he has. In general I like the idea.

Interesting read. I just hope the Studios doesn't become all Pixar- a land within a land seems about right to me. And yeah, as it is now, the Studios is tiny. Time to step it up, Disney!

We'll just have to be patient and wait and see.

I devoted a little time over ensuing columns to arguing that Disney should court Lucas more heavily and really increase the Star Wars presence in the parks.

I'm not alone! Sorry, my heart was left at "Lucasland" and I couldn't get to the Pixar part.

I forgot to add my comments to my own post!

I have to say I love the immersive aspect he talks about.

Instead of making it like a movie set, fake and flat, make it a land where you feel you are there. Love that. Lucasland would soooooo rock.

I think the blend of Pixar and Lucas could be a nice blend for the park. MGM needs a shot in the arm. Its been very stale for a while.

Very interesting, I'm gonna take a wait and see on this one. I'm a little tired of the disappointment of the last few years. Disney has put so much out there that has never made it to reality. I'll wait for something a little more concrete..

OK, that was well-thought of dribble. If I had to choose to make a new attraction based on an animation by Disney, or by a very popular Pixar I know what I'd choose. Except for Bug's Life, and the short Boundin' Everything they have handed us has been quality entertainment, with Disney's attention to detail and storytelling ability. Disney recognized that their animations were not doing well, but someone was delivering Disney Quality, and they acquired them.

I say, forget who made the film, and recognize the quality of the characters, the stories, and the movie. I can't wait to see a Cars ride, which I belive one is going into DLP, and I'm jealous of the Crush Coaster.

This is true. But this time things might move it bit quicker, thanks to a certain wizard themed land opening down the road.

So Disney plops down Pixar rides and attractions throughout WDW (some where they shouldn't even belong) and now they want to make an area for MORE Pixar rides !? Won't it seem strange to people that there are Monsters Inc., Buzz Lightyear, and Nemo rides at other parks outside their respective "land" ??

edit: Nevermind. Disney is so bad at fitting themes these days, people probably wouldn't notice

Not to mention that Toy Story will now officially have two rides. This proves that Disney doesn't plan ahead, otherwise Monsters Inc. would have been put in the future "Pixar Studio".

edit2: I think It could have been a good idea if they thought of it earlier for all their current Pixar creations.

Remember, these are the ideas of someone's blog, not of Disney per se. None of this may come to be. Though it makes sense, so hopefully it will.

If this is true, I'm going to cry. I have a trip in Sept. that will have Haunted Mansion closed for most of it, SSE closed for the whole time, and now possibly Rock 'n' Roller Coaster??

I think a Pixar section to MGM makes perfect sense. It's just another aspect of the movie making business.

As for the rumored updates, I'm not real thrilled about the Block Party Bash as I didn't love it in DCA. I wish MGM would start a new parade just for that park.

Oh, and the evil hat is getting new lights? Couldn't they just remove it at the same time??
