Arrgh Maaties... how about a Pirate Adventureland!

I just read a rumor

Captain Jack Sparrow & Barbossa's search for the Fountain of Youth) would then take WDW guests through this long-abandoned, over-grown temple that is just loaded with booby traps.

Hmm some interesting ideas there. Sounds interesting, and any improvement on the current tiki room would be a blessing.

Are they going to pirate crazy? Savvy....

You will not find a bigger Pirate lover than me. But, please don't let them touch my beloved Adventurland.

That seems hard to believe. Adventureland would become Pirates-of-the-Caribbean-land and that doesn't sound like something Disney would do. I doubt they would devote an entire land based on the success of the PotC series.

Over the top already. Enough of Pirates, I'd hate to see an entire themed land just to this one franchise. One attraction is enough.

I agree. I don't think retheming adventureland would be a good idea. It's too over the top.

While I wouldn't miss the Swiss Family treehouse (which I don't think I've ever been inside

), I can't imagine a fully themed area just for one film. Pixarland and Pirateland then, eh? Haha.

I am so sick of this. Why can't Disney see past the tip of their nose anymore? All they can think about is "What is popular now?" and not the timelessness of the things that used to be. Just because Pixar and Pirates are popular now doesn't mean they have to change everything to that. This is what I consider the label "Sellout" meaning.

The more and more I hear about Disney's decisions I think of going Schnemo's route, not renewing my AP and boycotting Disney. The only way to make a change is to reduce their attendance one person at a time.

I dont like this idea at all either. It just seems way overblown and like subsonic said, "Sellout". One ride is enough, and please don't mess with anything else!

Well, I suppose in an ideal world... but seriously, that seems a bit much. It appears to be a rumor, not something Disney actually plans on doing. At most, they might change a few things, but not the entire Adventureland. And if they did, it would be a huge mistake. There would be an awful lot of angry tourists with nostalgia for the original Adventureland.

Honestly, though, Jim Hill is about 20% accurate in most of these articles. I don't doubt that it's an idea on the table, but as my friend in Imagineering always tell me about rumors that float around, it's something that's thought up but usually not brought to reality.

And as far as my opinion goes, I'd be glad if Adventureland would be kept Adventureland. But, I think it would be great to see a "Port Royal" somewhere. And not because of the movies, but because I like pirates and Pirates in general.

I've heard that sometimes they float these ideas to get an idea of what people would think of them. I am not at all convinced that this is true, but let's hope that's what they're doing and that everyone responds as they have in this thread.

Just to be clear, I'm not exactly "boycotting" Disney, I just don't view Disney trips as a wise use of my money any more, since going there only makes me angry and that's no way to spend a vacation.

I'm not making any kind of a political or economic statement, I've just come to the sad realization that (and I thought there would never be a time in my life where I would say this) WDW sucks. OK, so Disney has lost thousands of dollars and a rabidly loyal fan by choosing to suck, but I'm pretty sure they haven't noticed and wouldn't care if they did.

It's just impossible to get the average Disney fan to care enough to stop going, and Disney knows this. I don't say this to be defeatist, only to say that if you really enjoy trips to Disney, you probably shouldn't deprive yourself of that enjoyment, because it will make even less difference than voting. If it comes to the point that, like me, you find yourself unhappy at Disney, well then, by all means...welcome to our sad little club.

As I read this comment, I couldn't help but think that maybe this could be true of Walt's time. I, for one, am ready for any type of change to AdventureLand. We haven't been to AdventureLand in nearly 10 years, because nothing has changed (other than the POTC re-furb... big whoop).

When Walt created the original AdventureLand and FrontierLand, cowboys and pirates were popular. The Jungle Cruise was inovative. The Swiss Family Robinson treehouse, though...

What I'm saying is this: Walt went with what was popular at the time. What's wrong with keeping up with what is popular? When those things are no longer popluar, then it will be time to change again. What's wrong with that? It gives us something new to see, and another reason to come back to WDW.

Is that the fault of Adventureland or the attractions therein? I'm all for enhancements. There are plenty of ideas that could be themed around "Adventure".

How about:
- Adding more thrilling enhancements to Jungle Cruise? Something like charging elephants or hippos that actually tip the boats a little (add some hydrolics to the boat Indiana Jones / Dinosaur style
- Include an Indiana Jones style ride

These are just off the top of my head, I'm sure people could think of more. Why does the entire land have to change because the managers lack vision?

I misunderstood your intentions. I think I'm all talk, overall I do enjoy going, but I get so frustrated how much Disney's decisions bother people yet nothing is heard or changed.
