Carousel of Progress

Post by soccermouse » Apr Thu 12, 2007 1:32 pm

Is the Carousel of Progress ever open? It was gone from Disneyland before I ever went (I remember America Sings) and I was looking forward to seeing it after hearing the audio here on Subsonic Radio. It is not listed on the WDW website.

It was open when I last went in January 2007. I believe it is supposed to be open seasonally?

it was open in December 2006, as well. not very crowded at all (there were 2 other people in the theater with us). the seats could stand to be replaced, as it seemed like the padding was very thin and the upholstery was worn through in several places. also, many of the seats that spring up (like movie theater seats) seem to have broken the spring, so they're permanently down.

still a good show overall...

I was just there in March-April and it was open. It was also open when I went in October.

I would agree it needs a refrub.

I really hope they never close it, its one of my favorites. I feel like its a link to Walt himself.

yeah, about the only Walt touch in all of the FL property. Outside of Mickey Mouse 1 on the tram tour in MGM, that is...

It was certainly open when I was there from September-November. I often popped into there whilst waiting for a Space Mountian fastpass to come around ;)

It's also certainly on my park maps that're on my wall.. I quote:

I hope that it is open the next time I am @ WDW. I, like a lot of you hope they never replace CoP. This is a true classic. I often find my self singing......"now is the time, now is the best time....." In fact I think I will see if it is available to play.....

I really can't stand the attraction, but I appreciate its significance. I would be crushed if it were to be removed. An update wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, it does kind of need an update, however at the same time, it has something about it that makes me like it as it is.

It could do with a little bit of refurbishment, though.

And yes, it really would be a shame if they removed it. Like it says in the introduction spiel on it, it was an attraction that Walt loved, and it does kind of serve as a link back to Walt and his original ideas.

I don't care much for "Now is the Time", but it does get stuck in your head:) I would rather hear "Great Big, Beautiful Tomorrow" :D This is one of my favorite attractions.

I've found the jump the last scene to be rather dramatic. I wish they would re do the whole thing.

Again I know it's an original Walt thing. But I think Walt would want it to be updated, and more current. I feel like the last scene really should be revisited every 3-5 years. To make it look like what the next generation of household will look like.

In the 70's when it was first produced the thought of having a household VCR was very cool and on the verge of being a reality. But now I own several DVRs and an on demand stream player (AppleTV).
