Why did they feel the need to update instead of rehab the room.

While I never saw the WDW version of the Tiki Room, I think the main idea was to create an attraction with characters that would be more well-known i.e. Iago and Zazu who were in very successful films.

Although, it seems that the more classic approach was much more successful. For instance, the one at Disneyland is still a favorite. On peak days at the park, the show never fails to fill up.

it's because the WD company has decided to make all rides/attractions movie-oriented in some way. Like the Subs (Submarine voyage at DLR and 20,000 leagues at WDW) into Finding Nemo and/or Little Mermaid ride...

It's not right the way they're running the parks...

Yes, I'm disappointed that so many attractions are movie based. Maybe it's just too many as of late. Maybe it's the fact that the make overs they have done are simply poor quality. I enjoy the details in all of Fantasyland's attractions. Those are older though. Where the budget must have been bigger. Where it was quality not quantity. The bigger and better attractions like HM, POTC, Space Mountain, and Matterhorn are not movie based and fantastic. I guess the exception would be Indy. It seems to be all about money. You spend 100 million on a ride like Indy and you get a great attraction that always produces long lines. This is in contrast to the new Tomorrowland where the WHOLE land only got 100 million and it's a ghost town. Hmm.. now I'm just rambling.

Subs was based on 20,000 Leagues...

Most of the attractions in the parks are based on or inspired by a Disney movie. There are a couple recent annoyances over originals getting converted poorly, but we can't slam all movie based attractions over that.

It's not so much that it's a bad thing that many of the attractions are movie-based. It's the fact that they're taking something classic and enjoyable and updating them to something that, well, isn't very inventive. Like 20,000 leagues... The subs that will most-likely be used would be the original subs used when the ride first opened. that means that we'd be riding in a Nautilus-themed sub, within a Finding Nemo themed ride. not right.

There are just some things in WDW/DLR that are classic yet modern at the same time, and those things don't need to be updated...

I like the Tiki Room though there are times it seems a little too intense for kids. I wanted to take my three year old nephew, but I'm afraid it might scare him.

Same here - the tikis coming to life is great! Though seeing the people sing along to the rest of the ride from heart is also a close second [and I thought I was a Disney nut!] And it is all about the original in its crazy glory, the "under new management" in WDW is no improvement - the ride is a classic even if it is a bit strange

I don't know, the preshow tends to put a smile on the faces of people that work in the industry.

I personally dont like the New Management version of Tiki at Disney World but the pre show is kind of funny. An interesting note on the preshow I do believe that Phil Hartman voices one of the birds in their and most likely was one of his last voice performances he ever did.

Sorry, slightly off topic: Do you think that's what they are doing to the Tiki Room at DLand???? Or does anyone know if the rehab is just exterior??? :?

They just need to go back to the old. Some things are better left untouched.

I liked the Tiki room much better the old way...but my son, who is 7, likes the fact that Iago is there.
