Disney Professional Internship

I was wondering if anyone has taken or is currently on a Disney Professional Internship. I am a freshman in college, and I am seriously considering an internship with Disney as part of the co-op requirement of my college. If anyone has any information/insight on the topic, or knows anyone that does, please let me know. Thanks.

I know a little bit about it. It really depends on what internship you want. Animal Sciences, Engineering, Management. I will tell you that they give preferential treatment to college program alumni. When you fill out forms, they ask that as a question. (It's not a requirement, but its is highly revered) Now that they have the just summer program, it is a lot easier to get into it.

A big part of the college program is getting to know you're managers. They are hooked up with people that you want/need to meet. If you do your job well, and get involved, they will get you where you want to be.

I personally did not get selected for an internship. (Complicated reasons beyond my control prevented me from appearing eligible to the people making selections, but I've learned a lot about how to do it through all of that mess) Feel free to ask me anything

Since I am a Mechanical Engineering major, I would ideally like an internship of relevance to engineering of any sort, but primarily design, operation, maintenance, or construction fields.

Is there by any chance a possibility of becoming an intern for some sort of Art field? I go to art college up here in Manchester, NH and I have been curious for quite some time.

you really need to check www.disneyinterns.com (there is a link to the job search site there) almost everyday. They post new internships all the time. Search for things relevant to you, and include "intern" in your search. This is also where they post for jobs. You don't have to do the college program, but they do look highly upon it. Plus doing the college program you can get help from managers.

Yeah, FlatlandMounty beat me to it, but your best resource for available positions and requirements is always going to be the Disney intern site itself. I did a college program five years ago as a sophomore and a professional internship almost two years ago as a post-graduate. I checked the Disney intern site frequently and stayed in touch with my recruiter from my college program. You're going to hear the word "network" a lot, but it's true! Often times it's not necessarily what you know, but who you know.

Absolutely. They are extremely competitive, but there are intern positions with the Disney Design Group. I met a guy on my professional internship who interned with them, and if I remember correctly, he's still working contractually with that group. He's designed pins--yes, the pins you see in the parks--and some other merchandise. They're always updating internship offerings as departments need/request them, so you should check the DisneyInterns site frequently too.

I took part in the Disney Professional Internship for PR / Communications majors in the spring of 2000 and absolutely loved it. They placed me in Magic Kingdom Guest Relations, a true dream come true. Went back and graduated, then immediately returned to the job waiting for me at MKGR.

I HIGHLY recommend interviewing for the internship, even if you don't have an interest in making Disney your career choice. The experience is priceless, and it looks great on a resume.
