Ever done a spur of the moment trip?

Post by AKLRULZ » Jul Thu 13, 2006 2:36 pm

As in I'm leaving in two days? Maybe three?

Just curious, what's been the least amount of plan time for a Disney trip for you.

Not yet, but plan on it for for the future! (when I have kids!)

One Sunday afternoon, my wife and I were talking about how cool it would be to do a Disney Cruise. It was just wishful thinking, but we did need a break so monday morning we asked for thursday and friday off thinking we could plan going to the beach with our 4 day weekend.

When we got home from work we both said we had been thinking about a Disney Cruise all day. Without even thinking about it, we picked up the phone and called DCL. They had space on their 3-Night Disney Wonder leaving thursday!!! We jumped on it booked!!!

2 days later we were on-board the Disney Wonder heading to Nassau :)

About two hours here. My wife and I have woken up and asked each other, "What do you want to do today?" and then suddenly the Disney idea pops up. I guess it helps that we live only an hour away. :D

The trip I'm taking at the end of the month was my closest to "spur of the Moment trip" that I have gotten. I decided to go 06/26/06 exactly one month before the trip. Now that I have an annual pass for DL I can do that. If I get one for WDW I may do it for that one, as airline tickets are cheaper for Florida.

Talk about unfair! I only have the seasonal pass... couldn't spring for two annuals. :(

Still........ to only live an hour away is nice. Are the summers too hot down there?

When I used to live in Boca, about 3 hours away, usually on a tuesday or wednesday we would decide to go up on that friday and spend the weekend. Living close definatly had it's benifits.

Knedeau: It gets hotter here in Texas then I remember it ever getting in Boca, but i think one of the main reasons for that is I lived a 1/2 hour bike ride or a 10-15 minute car ride from the Atlantic. Those cool ocean breazes help fight the heat a bit since the air is always moving. Here it'll be 95-100 and since Austin is so land locked the air will be dead still.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

I can say yes... sort of.

I live in Cali, so a "spur-of-the-moment" trip to WDW is just a little on the crazy side. But, back in November '04, when I already knew I was going in December (and had been planning that trip for 5-6 months), I had a business trip to Orlando (the National Association of REALTORS had their conference/trade show at the OC Convention Center that year).

I was in marketing with my company and working the booth on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday... or so I thought. I got to the show Sunday morning, the last and notoriously dead day of the weekend, and my boss, one of the coolest people I have ever worked for, pulled me aside and said "Isn't there someplace in town you'd rather be?"

She knew I was a HUGE Disney nut, and she let me skip the last day of the trade show and I went off to the parks. Now, I ended up paying for a two-day park hopper at the gate... so it wasn't cheap. But I hit up a few rides at MK, Epcot, AND Studios that day, including the mountains, Pirates, Mansion, SE, Test Track, Maelstrom, ToT and RnRC. One of the best individual days of my life!

So that's the best I can do for a spur-of-the-moment trip... I was already in town on business!

That's the only thing I'm not complaining about knedeau! I may only have a season pass, but the crowds and the head are almost unbarable to go to a park. So the three months during the summer I can not go to Disney I'm willing to give up.

When my DW and I were dating, she was had a trip planned for (driving) Disney. We were only seeing each other for about two months. She invited me to go with her 11am and we left at 4pm. the right 5 hours!! I just packed a few things and went shopping for everything else.
It was crazy, we spent entirely to much money. We left for a 4 day trip and end up coming home 10 days late (she was getting the Swan for $49 a night). We've been together ever since, Yes I would say it was a great trip!!

I guess I'm just not the spontaneous type; I like to plan things out, and anticipating a trip can be fun, too. Living in MN doesn't help either.

Was fortunate enough to live in Orlando with a seasonal pass for a few years. There were a few instances, after tough days at the office (I was a vacation salesman who made calls to the UK at the time), where I'd just be... "Ok, once it hits noon, I'm just gonna go. Don't want to go home and stew about selling nothing. Just going to enjoy the rest of the day at EPCOT." And without exception, it was a good call.

Man, getting out at noon was awesome. But starting at 4am... significantly less so.
