Where are the counter service meals big enough to share?

Post by bribren » Jul Mon 10, 2006 8:53 am

I will be in WDW in August. Me and my 13 son will be there on the free dining promotion for 5 nights. We have our AR's set (C.Defrance, the cellar, H.D. Doo and 50's PT) but Im looking to plan some counter meals that are big enough to split to maximize our plan. If we can split at least 2 meals, It will free up a dinner for the night we are using 2 credits for the revue...

I tried seasons at the land and a sandwich/mac n cheese, fruitcup combo was enough for 2. Caseys hot dog combo will only feed one. Nor could 1/2 of a pizza planet pie fill us up.

Just looking for some Ideas....

This is a great topic. Seasons was what I thought of first too. I am curious to see what other suggestions pop up.

I am not sure how the Disney Dining thing actually works. Sounds like you are allotted a certain amount of premium meals, then a bunch of counter meals?

for every day you have on your Dining Plan (basic) you get 1 counter service, one snack, and one premium meal. You don't have to use each per day... like if you have 7 days on your plan.. they give you 7 of each to use when and how you want. Many of the meals are big already.. I suppose it depends on what you order at each place and who is eating (size of appetite, etc.). My sis and I (pre dining plans) used to share the majority of our meals... it was cheaper and it was enough for us both...

They have 1/2 chicken dinners at several places. If one of you likes dark meat and the other white meat. it's the perfect dinner to share. At Cosmic Ray's in the MK it comes with mashed potatoes, at Flame Tree BBQ at AK it comes with corn on the cob and baked beans. There are also chicken/rib dinners at both of these places that are plenty to share. Remember, if the entrees don't fill you up, you also get dessert.

Hello!
I have two suggestions for you. The Tusker House at the Animal Kingdom has a chicken dinner that could easily be split in half. The Columbia Harbor House at the Magic Kingdom has a chicken strips and fish fillet combo that would also split nicely. Good eatin'!

Regards,
Delray

Agree about Tusker House and Columbia Harbor House - we're not the biggest fan of counter services meals but these are two places that we really like and they definitely have portions large enough to share.

The two that come to mind are:
England; The fish and chips orders are plenty big enough for two
China: You can do a mix and match for a good snack or light dinner.

Another Baloo (my DW's handle on the Dis http://disboards.com/index.php? She a mod there) hint; Is to eat your big meal for lunch at EPCOT. You get a great meal for less exspensive then dinner. It pretty much the same thing you get for dinner only cheaper

Good suggestions. Agree with Cosmic Rays and Flame Tree BBQ for their combo meals. If you like Mexican, then there's the Cantina de San Angel in Epcot. I remember the meals being pretty filling there. At least the nachos were.

I can back that statement up. Last Friday me and my g/f split the combo plate which had a burrito, a quesadilla, and an enchillada. It was actually pretty tasty, minus the side salsa. It also came with lettuce/tomato that could be called a salad I suppose, and refried black beans with melted cheese. It was definitely a big lunch for the two of us.

Very good info! I'll need to remember that.We go to WDW several times a year and we get stuck in ruts and don't try other things. We'll have to check out the Cantina. :)

We do that often where there are "Topping Bars" with salad, lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc.

Just went to Cosmic Rays this past Sunday and my wife and I split a chicken sandwich, I had a paper plate in my backpack (she wondered what I was doing when she saw me put it in there before leaving the house) put the sandwich and fries on it and filled the basket with veggies. I had my fill with mushrooms  . Pinocchio's, Electric Umbrella, Cosmic Rays and a few others have Topping Bars.

Gotta love those places. I've never thought about bringing an extra plate, but I can see people doing it. I remember just taking off the top bun of a burger and just loading stuff on- even if I didn't really want it. Pecos Bills has a topping bar as well.

For sure I could split a burger at Peco's Bills. ALso could probably split up a counter meal if it had a soup or a salad. I may go to Pepper Market just to see Coronado for the first time. Looks like their portions are pretty big.
