There have been rumors of a Villain-themed park for many years now... they likely originated when the Villainesses/Villains became the first popular character group that Disney marketed out of context (followed by the MUCH more popular Princesses, and by the "Disney Cats" group of characters).
The park has been rumored both as a fifth gate for WDW, and as a third gate for DLR. In fact, the rumors may even predate Animal Kingdom, and people thought that the fourth WDW gate would be villain-themed, but I'm not sure.
The rumors usually go that the park would be very thrill-based. This seems unlikely in Florida now that both the Studios and Epcot are getting doses of thrill rides, but then, Disney may be feeling the pinch of IOA, and want to tap into the roller coaster market in a Disney-themed way.
The end result of all this, of course, is that they are simply rumors. No one knows anything other than such a park is not currently in the official plans of the Walt Disney Company.

DLR == Disneyland Resort? i personally like how they've interspersed the thrill rides thru existing parks. i think a new park completely villain themed would be a bad idea. too negative, dark, and evil. however, i would love to see a major area of one of the parks completely villain themed. i think it'd even be neat to have a villain themed low end resort. that'd be fun.

In general I like the villians, but I'm not sure I'd like to see a park themed with villians. A character meal? Sure. A few rides? Sounds good. But an entire park just doesn't seem to fit the Disney concept. Might just be me though...

Last June a CM told us this was a "100% certainty" and would be annouced the month after Expedition Everest opened. I told him I'd heard the rumor for years and he was emphatic. Good thing we all didn't hold our breath, eh, give it's been nearly 3 months since EE opened.

I wouldn't mind a Villain area, but I wouldn't want to see a whole park based on a Villains. Now I'm not sure which park to put this area in, but anywho.

I Heard the SAME rumor from a Cast Member on the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour (they even give you a PIN!) on my honeymoon in '04. (Just like the rumor for the expanded monorails) I've been crossing my fingers and hoping for it ever since! I mean, even if they don't make a special park, but make it a new area at an existing park (Maybe as park of MGM) it would be AWESOME! Maybe I can even talk my hubby in going back there w/ me instead of going to Disney w/o him (heheh which I've been doing.... Going w/ my sister and fam!)

I would enjoy a villian themed park greatly. I am into Halloween and It would be a great place to get idea of what to do for the haunted house I work with, or for my front lawn. I fact I just got back from a gathering of H-day folks in MI called GLFF (Great Lakes Fright Fest). I showed off an idea I got from disney this past year. I would love to be in the room when they design or even build the stuff for it.

There was a strong rumor of putting Villain Mountain into MK as well as Fire Mountain. Fire being a rollercoaster similar to EE/BTMR and Villain Mountain a flume ride similar to Splash Mountain but neither came through.

I don't like when they slap all the villains together into a single product. Maleficent and Shere Khan just don't go together, if you know what I mean. And some villains are more villainous than others...Nemo, for example, is mostly misunderstood. The
real villain is man's inhumanity to man...not sure that would make for a good rollercoaster.
Coming this summer to Villain's Cove...the Atrocity-Go-Round!
I wouldn't mind some attractions from the villain's point of view or, I guess, a land dedicated to villains, but I really wouldn't want to see one attraction with them all lumped together.
I think Scar would pretty much want to eat Captain Hook, not scheme together.
By the way,
this site is kinda cool.
I've also heard this rumor being kicked around for at least 10 years. Doesn't really sound very "Disney", on the whole.

I agree with Captain Schnemo: when you think about it, each villian has his/her own motivation for doing what they do (Shere Khan fears humans because of fire/guns, Maleficent, Ursula, Scar and others feel they have been unjustly overlooked or excluded, etc.) But when they get put together, they just become evil without context or clear motivation (hey, kids, let's be evil together!) and therefore much less interesting.
Better to stick to developing attractions around a strong storyline.

But then again, isn't that basically the plot to Fantasmic?

Yes it is, which maybe is why I'm not a huge Fantasmic fan -- seeing it once was enough for me. And Fantasmic would be nothing without Mickey. Since they do have Fantasmic, is there a need for another attraction like this?

I've always have heard that the "VILLIANS LAND" would be the eight one at MK. I feel that DIsney really needs to add something in WDW. Our 2DS are getting into those teen years and we are spending more time at universal and IOA. If Disney wants to keep our money full time during the teen years there going to have to compete!
We travel from our little part of Tennessee 3 or 4 times a year and these trips are no longer exclusively Diney.
