Man Injured While Boarding Ride At Disney World

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Deputies and rescue crews rushed to Fantasy Land on Tuesday night. They were called when a man fell and was pinned at the Peter Pan's Flight ride at Magic Kingdom.

The 70-year-old man was treated for injuries at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Investigators said the man was on a conveyor belt, trying to board the ride with his wife and granddaughter, when he fell into the path of the next vehicle on the belt.

Oh dear!! I'm glad to read how Disney even sent in a rep to the hospital to help the family.

I thought he fell during the ride like in the London scene or something. Hope he isn't terribly injured.

That would have been horrible! I'll admit I did think that first though.

After reading about this for the first time, my prayer's are with the man, I never realized they had that many accidents. I remember the kid on Mission space, but the other two I didn't know about. And all three accidents were heart problems. Maybe it is time to require heart exams for kids. I know that there were a couple of kids that had heart attack in my school district last year. If they had manditory test they could at the least save a few of these kids.

I hope he recovers well. I can see how you can get stuck under there, and can only imagine what the granddaughter is thinking she may never want to ride it again. I would have thought it would have been at the begining of the conveyor that sometimes even gets me.

The cynic in me thinks that they send a rep to help smooth things over so they don't get sued.

I feel sorry for the man however. He was pretty old, I wonder if has mobility issues and should have been helped on the ride to begin with.

It would not be too hard to lose your sense of balance inside there on the ride and then not quite recover by the time you exit and have to step off - esp. at that age. Gotta wonder if it was something as simple as that and he just couldn't get his feet back soon enough on the exit...

I read about that and was trying to work out exactly how he got fell. It didn't sound like he was messing around.

He's an old man and older people aren't the nimblest of people, probably was trying to rush to get in, missed his step, fell and voila.

We've had a rep with us on two occassions, and I can't tell you how invaluable the help has been. Yes, the cynic in me realizes they are there in case of a lawsuit, however, look at the flip side of things and see it as the company caring enough to make sure that everything goes well so there isn't a NEED for a lawsuit, if that makes sense. There are two sides to every fried egg. (okay, don't ask me where that analogy came from) When my daughter was sick, the rep helped us line up all medical issues, and helped us sort out the insurance with the hospital. When I was sick, they took care of my children when I was unable to. In both instances, I was greatful that Disney had someone there who's primary job was to look out for my daughter and myself.

Jeez, got a bit hormonal there, didn't I?

Way too many accidents lately, and its not even Disney's fault.

How does that happen? I cant even imagine. I have gotten on and off that ride many times and just cant fathom how you would fall behind it like that.

Thats exactly my view Addlema. It just doesn't make sence! I cant see that the old guy would have bneen messing around, but i also really cant work out how else it could have happened.

There is a moving platform that moves at the same speed as the ships you need to board. Getting on to the platform can be a little disorienting to some people and you only have a limited time to get in the ships before the platform ends. I'm sure the guy was trying to hurry and just lost his balance.

Yeah i agree...that ride moves sooooo slow that it would be hard to put yourself in a dangerous position, unless you were older or very young.


Its a shame, but accidents do happen.
