I was at a conference in Vegas (flew in) and someone was ranting at person behind the counter because the major hotels have all started to charge for parking.
Going slightly off topic, I'm not a fan of Vegas but that parking thing feels like a pure money grab. It's not like they are strapped for parking there and the logic used to be that if you made it easy for people to casino-hop you'd make more money. Maybe now that all the casinos have pretty much consolidated down to three major companies it's not as much of an incentive.

The reason they likely are doing it is because they have been gathering solid data now and learned things like less than 1/3rd of visitors actually gamble, so their main revenue stream isn't as large as they wanted it to be. Hence the change to nickel and dime. Even the free drinks don't exist in many places as they will track spending before offering anything.

Back to Disney, the bottom line is Disney will not leave money on the table. I will say the costs have gone up so much that it has forced me to look elsewhere for vacations and only consider WDW every few years. But hey, if they fill their hotels without me then kudos.

I'm going to have to agree with you. I think the resorts are already so expensive, many of the basic rooms are no different from other more pricey resorts, so to charge so much for parking is ridiculous. You're already getting so much from me that you need me to pay to stay there as well??? I hate the statement that "other hotels do it so..." Disney prides itself from being different if not better from "other parks" so if that is true don't do what these other parks are doing. Also, if the need to charge is to keep others from parking there when they are not suppose to, then you need to tighten security.

I have said it before I'll keep saying it. Disney visits are starting to be only for the wealthy. And that's fine if that what it has become but dont try to justify it with horrible excuses. Again I have to agree, but me not being able to afford to stay at a resort won't hurt Disney at all so... good for them.
