there's been rumors of a 5th park circulating for years now. It was supposed to go somewhere near the WWOSC. I got really excited the first time I heard this too, until I heard it was only a rumor. Disney right now is concerned more with Asia now than ever. I wouldn't expect a new park on this side of the world for about the next 20 years, if even then....

Oh well. Such a letdown. I was all excited.
You never know though! I'll hope for it anyway.

When I got married in 99 we went to WDW and they told us then they were thinking about opening a Coney Island type amusement park. So I think the Rumors have been flying for a long time.
I think this would help bring back some of the teenage kids and take them away from IOA, but what do I know.

You guys gotta keep in mind that WDWR has only used 30% of their land. They have enough room for 4 more theme parks, more resorts, & who knows what else. So more will come, there's no doubt about that.

There have been past rumors about an all villains theme park & an all sports theme park...(no sense in that considering there is WWOSC.
There actually was some serious talk of a theme park that featured lands from the movies (like neverland, wonderland, under the sea, ect) and mild & wild attractions taken from the animated movies but the idea was stolen by Universal when they created IOA.
Dont worry, I'm sure we'll see a new park w/in the next 5-10 years. At least hear about construction of a new one w/in the next 4-5...

The Story my friend heard was exactly that - a new park with "wilder" rides for the bigger "kids". I also thought it was to compete with IOA and maybe even Bush Gardens....
She said that this whole story came from a "Keys to the Kingdom" tour. I have no idea if that lends the possibility more credence or not though.
Heres Hoping! I will always like more!

As with anything on the internet--take it with a grain of salt and do your research. Mouseplanet (
www.mouseplanet.com) is a great resource/sounding board for items like this.
As others have said, highly unlikely to be happening in the near future (if at all).

Don't bet on it. A few websites have crunched the numbers, based on what happens when a new park opens, a new hotel opens, etc... redistribution of visitors vs. new people coming in, so forth and so on...
Apparently, Disney may well have decided that the Florida property has reached critical mass, in a sense... that opening a 5th gate wouldn't draw people to the property, but would rather simply redistribute the traffic of people who would be there any way.
A major infrastructure overhaul... say, a massive expansion of the monorail system, or introduction of a WEDway-like system... could change this. They seem to be toying with the infrastructure idea, with rumors of a new road straight from MCO through Disney property (and off I-4 (it is 4, isn't it?)) being built.
Point is, if Disney doesn't believe a 5th gate won't dramatically increase total resort visitorship... as, apparently, Animal Kingdom hasn't truly done... it won't open one. There may be new hotels (though not likely after the Pop Century expansion) or new waterparks, an expansion of DTD, etc, but I wouldn't hold your breath on a whole new 5th gate.
The fact that Disney seems so bent on Asia also leads me to this conclusion...

This exact rumor was presented to us by the captain of the boat taking us from MK to WL this past summer - I told him I'd heard the rumor on th internet for the past 5 years and he insisted he was correct.
I'll believe it when it's formerly announced and not until then.

besides a new park with villains as the theme, what other themes could they do? I'd love to see an extinct attractions park, but it'd probably never be done. The rumor mill has the new park located near the Wide World of Sports complex, so maybe they'll just make it Sports related and include the WWoS complex within it...
oh, the possibilities... and now that Eisner's out, maybe some of our prayers will be answered...

It would be interesting but these rumors hang on forever. Seems to me the WWoS complex is a bit of a flop, outside of spring training and some other events you rarely hear about it - sort of like the former Institute. A big experiment based a bit too much on fad instead of experiance. As for new themes, I don't think we'd have seen AK coming 5-10 years before it went public. So who knows what they'd think up - and I'd also love an extinct rides parks...
With new leadership maybe they'll actually put some effort in rather than go with status quo. Infrastructure [mentioned above] will need a big upgrade first though - word is in the summers 2-5 years out the roads will be straight gridlock if rail transit projects [monorail and/or wedway] don't get moving since the buses will be stuck along with everyone else.
