Information on Disney Vacation Club??

Post by disneyinfopage » Sep Sat 10, 2005 9:06 pm

Hi... I'm new here... I apologize if this topic has been posted before.

I'm seriously considering DVC, but am a little confused / overwhelmed at the prospect of plunking down $15K.

Question for those who have it:

--Do you like it?
--How would I benefit from buying into DVC?
--I know you buy into a particular resort, but what if you want to stay at another WDW property? Can you? (i.e., you buy into Saratoga Springs, but want to stay at the Beach Club Villas)

That's my initial questions... thanks for any info you can provide!

Have you checked the DIS Board - they have an ginormous DVC section. GOOD LUCK!

My parents have DVC and we love it. You can use the points anywhere. We used some left over points to go to The Plaza in NYC for a weekend. I'm sure if they changed this recently.

The benefits are great b/c you're buying into Disney property. I know my parents could sell their DVC membership right now and make a bundle. We bought it back in the mid 90's when it first came out.

I hope this helps.

I have put off being a Vacation Club Member for many years. I just couldn't justify paying all that money. The monthly fees added up to what we were paying for a week stay at the All Stars. Plus I had to give them $10 thousand. (I joined a ccouple of years ago, now it is about $15 thou., minimum). I finaly figured it pays off in the long run. With the prices of ALL the rooms going way out of reach, we don't have to worry. We are locked in at "yesterday's" prices. And now we can stay at places that cost a couple of hundreds of dollars a night. Places like, The Wilderness Lodge, The Boardwalk, Old Key West, etc...We would have never been able to stay at these places with out our membership. And we have it for fourty more years. And I can pass it on as inheritance, if GOD almighty takes me to see Uncle Walt. Now the price of the All Stars are gett'n out of reach for most. I just wish I had joined sooner, when it was cheaper. Now I wish I could find the money for more points.

DVC is the greatest thing ever.. I am a huge fan of it.. My parents bought enough points for my them, my family, and my sister to all share.

We love it. They bought it 5 years ago and man they could see it now and make a ton. As they said above: Our hotel stays at Disney for the next 30 years will cost the same as they did 5 years ago, while everyone else pays tons of money as inflation drives up the prices.

And the DVC Hotels are awesome and you get tons of perks (discounts around the parks and discounted park tickets, and more!).

Your HOME resort you can book 1 year in advance. At NON Home resort (every other resort) can book 7-8 months in advance.. Other then that its the same. Points vary.

I would check out the disboards and some of the recent Point charts to make sure you buy enough points for what you want.

My parents home resort is the Wilderness Lodge, but they stay at Old Key West more often usually. I love the Boardwalk and stay there, and my sister bounces around.

I would be happy to help answer any other questions ;)

When I joined with my best friend in 1997 I had to talk her into it. Now, we both believe it is the best decision we have ever made. We love it. We have the means to go to a beautiful Disney resort every year, whether we go to the parks or not. We have used our points to go on several Disney cruises also, which are fabulous! It is a lot of money, but I have found it to be entirely worth it. You just can't beat Disney for the amenities they offer and their service. And one of the nicest things in the world is getting to the main gate for check in and having someone say to you "Welcome Home". I say go for it!!

Ohh I do love the Welcome home part..

Last time we were at boardwalk we walked up to the front counter and they said Welcome home Mr and Ms addlema and handed us our room keys.

I had to pick up my jaw.

Very magical moment. Same thing happens most of time now.

Actually thinking back on it, the same thing happened on our honeymoon at All Star Music.

I have some questions about the DVC, if anyone would care to answer. I'll also try searching elsewhere.

1) I see that as of this moment, the price to buy in (according to the official website) is just over $15,000 (Current prices start at $15,150, according to the site). I got that much. But I keep hearing about the "annual dues". What do these dues usually run every year? are they different for each member based on when you signed up?

2) As we all know (by now), you can stay in one of several WDW resorts or select DLR/DLRP hotels. in staying in the hotels, does this include the admission into the parks? I see nothing answering this in the FAQs on the offical site.

I have just ordered the DVC DVD that is offered on the website, and hopefully it can at least help answer at least part of these questions, and also may bring on some more. like I said, I'll do some digging around other sites as well, but any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.

1) The Annual Dues are based on the number of points you have and are different by each resort. I'm looking for the breakdown, but haven't found it yet.

2) It does not include admission to the parks. If you purchase an annual pass through the DVC you can get a $100 discount off your annual pass.

Their official site is a joke. The DVD that I received was also not very good. Now it may answer some basic questions for you, but it doesn't go into great detail.

Can someone give a brief explanation of exactly what the DVC is for the folks like myself who have never heard of it? It sounds like it could be a very interesting investment.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

The Disney Vacation Club is a timeshare, essentially. That's all I know and frankly, it's been enough to keep me away from it. That, and the fact that I have never in my life had $15,000 at any one time to spend on anything (though to be fair I'm still just 26)
