Hi all!
I heard a new pre-show loop at Illuminations. I dunno when it changed over but....I didn't love it. I didn't think it had much personality. Anyone else heard it?

I have a friend down there right now...so I'll ask him.

Was down there last week but didn't make the Illuminations show this trip. Some of my favorite tunes in the pre-show. Could be a bummer if they have changed it.

My buddy said the music was the same old pre-show loop. I wonder why you heard something different.

Hmmm.
It was the Garden Festival - maybe they changed it for that. The post-show loop was the same.
Thanks for asking your pal!

They changed it to the old pre-show loop while I was there last September. (At least, that's when I think it happened. It was the usual loop one day, the next day onwards it was the older loop).

I don't know why they changed it, but I approve.

(The older loop they changed to being the one that's in the Evening at Epcot track that's in the SSR stream)

Who else thinks it's time to refresh the entire Illuminations show?

If they start making relevant and still popular characters the focus for every pavilion, they may very well do that.

Me ~ but I know I'm not in the majority on this one. I liked the older show that spotlighted each of the countries myself.

I kind of hope that doesn't happen. I wonder if it might if it turns out that the addition of Elsa and Anna to the Norway pavilion turns out to be popular though.

It would probably be the first test, all the other characters they merged in were directly related to the countries (featuring said real locations in the franchise) but were all stale by the time they were added to WS. If they can pull off removing fake-ish Reader's Digest Norway for a totally fictional place, then they will try and roll it out to other areas. There is still a large audience draw for illuminations, right? Throw in that they have been building more waterfront dining, which can charge a premium for dinner along with many of the other places relying on guests staying until closing time for meals. They probably have no incentive to touch the show beyond hardware updates. Too much of a risk and they would probably need to take the show down for an extended period, which would cripple the park and make the companies that run the restaurants leave.

I'd rather they replaced Wishes at Magic Kingdom first.

There, I said it.

I just think Wishes has run its course now. Compared to some of the newer nighttime shows, it just seems.. lacking. Look at Disney Dreams in Paris or Once Upon a Time in Tokyo, for example. They're both very good shows. Yes, they lack the high-level big fireworks, but they could easily incorporate those into that kind of show if they wanted to keep the big bangs (I assume the Americans would like their shows to remain big and loud ;)).

IllumiNations could probably do with an update, but it's a vastly more popular show than Wishes, so whatever replacement they eventually bring has a lot to live up to.

Even more, though, I'd like to see some kind of daytime entertainment at World Showcase. Something like what Tokyo DisneySea used to have in The Legend of Mythica would be awesome (I count it as the best daytime show at any Disney park that I've seen). It'd probably fit better at Animal Kingdom though. It's always irked me that there's not really any big mid-afternoon "thing" at Epcot.

I like Wishes, but wouldn't be opposed to something new. I do like the really big fireworks though ~ I can do without the loud reports unless it corresponds nicely to the show.
Did you ever see the Tapestry of Nations parade at EPCOT? That was a nice show and seemed well attended the times we saw it. It would be nice to have something back in the afternoons at EPCOT. Maybe they feel like there is enough to do there without having an afternoon show/parade?

My first visit to WDW was in 2006 (when I was a Cast Member), so I missed the parade. I have seen video of it, though. It looks like it was quite a big production with multiple simultaneous parades going round World Showcase. I think I'd probably prefer something on the water (again, Mythica being a good example, but with more of a World Showcase theme) though.
