Future Guy ~ I love that pic! That says it all!
bravetaylor ~ I couldn't agree more! EPCOT was always so full of wonder and yet you were learning things while being entertained. I will never forget the way it was when I first went there...right before the decline started. It's never been the same since.

Re: If you could change one thing, or something at EPCOT
I've come to believe that, just as the Magic Kingdom is about preserving the fantasies of childhood, EPCOT is about confronting the realities of adulthood. We all start out with grand dreams and limitless possibilities before us, but eventually life turns into a series of compromises, and we're happy if we can just keep our head above water most of the time.
In the beginning, EPCOT also had lots of grand dreams and big possibilities. We were promised frequent updates and new attractions, and for a while Disney delivered. However, just as external factors often force our lives in directions we hadn't wanted them to go, lost corporate sponsorships and a changing culture that made EPCOT's brand of entertainment seem staid and boring forced it off course in the '90s, and today we console ourselves by saying stuff like "Sure, the Imagination pavilion contains nothing worth seeing, but at least they haven't torn it down! And the gift shop still sells Figment merchandise!" or "Sure they tore down Horizons, but at least they built something to take its place!" It's the same logic we use to convince ourselves that our life isn't a failure, despite the fact that we got almost nothing we wanted.

Wow, you've made the uplifting optimism of mankind's future and technological advancements seem so...depressing...Future Guy wrote:I've come to believe that, just as the Magic Kingdom is about preserving the fantasies of childhood, EPCOT is about confronting the realities of adulthood. i miss the original catfish and sides offerings at "the land" character (family style) meal. the new fish is good, but there was something extra fun about doing the land ride downstairs, seeing their farm raised catfish in the clean looking tanks, then going upstairs and imagining that your eating 'em fresh out of that clean tank. i know, probably they're not actually raising and serving their own ultra clean fish, but it's all about imagination right?even still, in reality, i do think they tasted better than the new fish. the staff said they had to change 'em because disney was afraid the original meal was not health conscious enough. yet the staff agreed, they'd rather see the original selections back too. i also wish they were still open for lunch at the time of year we arrive. we always started our trip (fresh from the airport) with lunch there... sadly, no longer an option.

I think they really do use the fish that they raise in The Land in the restaurant, along with the fresh veggies and fruits from the land...or at least they used to...nicklesm17 wrote:i miss the original catfish and sides offerings at "the land" character (family style) meal. the new fish is good, but there was something extra fun about doing the land ride downstairs, seeing their farm raised catfish in the clean looking tanks, then going upstairs and imagining that your eating 'em fresh out of that clean tank. i know, probably they're not actually raising and serving their own ultra clean fish, but it's all about imagination right?even still, in reality, i do think they tasted better than the new fish. the staff said they had to change 'em because disney was afraid the original meal was not health conscious enough. yet the staff agreed, they'd rather see the original selections back too. i also wish they were still open for lunch at the time of year we arrive. we always started our trip (fresh from the airport) with lunch there... sadly, no longer an option.

well, now i miss it even more. i forgot what fish it was, but it's an ocean fish. like i said, it is good, but not as good. i think they may have gotten rid of the sweet carrots for asparagus as well. at least they kept the oat rolls and honey butter.Amy wrote:I think they really do use the fish that they raise in The Land in the restaurant, along with the fresh veggies and fruits from the land...or at least they used to...nicklesm17 wrote:i miss the original catfish and sides offerings at "the land" character (family style) meal. the new fish is good, but there was something extra fun about doing the land ride downstairs, seeing their farm raised catfish in the clean looking tanks, then going upstairs and imagining that your eating 'em fresh out of that clean tank. i know, probably they're not actually raising and serving their own ultra clean fish, but it's all about imagination right?even still, in reality, i do think they tasted better than the new fish. the staff said they had to change 'em because disney was afraid the original meal was not health conscious enough. yet the staff agreed, they'd rather see the original selections back too. i also wish they were still open for lunch at the time of year we arrive. we always started our trip (fresh from the airport) with lunch there... sadly, no longer an option.

We did the Behind the Seeds tour on our last trip and they do use the fish and all the vegetation they grow in The Land at their restaurants around the Disney parks! Alot of the stuff they grow goes to the animals at AK. We also got to feed the Talapia in the tour, it was alot of fun and very infomative!

If you have a Disney Visa you get a discount on all tours! The tour will last about 45 mins. so it doesn't take a huge chunk out of your day. It's cool to go behind the "seeds" there! We would highly recommend this! They even let us taste some of the veggies.
