well, if this logic holds true, that means that CoP, Mickey's House, Minnie's House, Snow White's Scary Adventures, the Hall of Presidents, and all of Tom Sawyer Island will be closed. and, while I know that some of these WILL be down for refurb, I do not believe they ALL will be.99Soulz wrote:Some more info regarding the rumored Space Mountain rehab for 2009.....the vacation planning package and DVD that you receive after booking through WDW includes park maps and the MK map does not show SM as an attraction for next year. There is no number for it on the legend and not even listed under the Tomorrowland attractions.
Some rumors...

I really like the speedway, but generally only a) when it's dark out and b) when I'm behind a friend/family member who can't drive the car properly. Good times.brye wrote:i've never rode the speedway. it looks way too little kiddish for me. seems like it should be in fantasyland, not tomorrowland, but that's just me.
I'm almost to the point I want Space Mountain to go down, just to put an end to that rumor. I've heard that it's going to be closed starting January 2006, 7, 8 and now 9. Make it stop!

True, they do not include all the attractions due to space constriction in the booklet BUT do you really think they would exclude Space Mountain from the vacation planner map? Was always listed before (#29 on 2008) and see no other reason to remove it.

If they were going to take it down for an extended period of time, they'd remove it from the custom maps as well, and I know for a fact that they haven't done that. Until there is an official press release, I do not believe they will take down Space Mountian, or any other attraction, lest they have a line at Guest Relations specifically for complaints by irate vacationers.

Even if they were removed from the maps and everyone knew of their closing, Guest Relations would STILL get a line of complaintsjs3901 wrote:If they were going to take it down for an extended period of time, they'd remove it from the custom maps as well, and I know for a fact that they haven't done that. Is it just me or is that a short downtime for a refurb? Looks like they'll just be polishing the track and replacing burned out light bulbs. At least it will be open for me on Friday!

It's certainly not a year+ refurb like the rumor's been advertising all this time. I'd be surprised if they were going to be able to do as big an overhaul as they did in DL in 8ish months.
I'm hoping they'll be able to incorporate the sound system like DL, but I'm kind of glad it seems like they're not going to change out the track entirely. The Peoplemover should be safe that way...

Yeah...that was one thing I was worried about was how everything around it and through it would be handled. Does the TTA run when Space Mtn is down? I bet that would look very strange.

I honestly don't remember the last time Space Mountain was down for any length of time, so I don't know for sure.
That said, if the track isn't being removed completely (say, small sections of track were going to be replaced piece by piece, but in the same configuration, like I believe they did for DL), then I would guess the TTA could keep running, probably with panels covering the usual 'view' you get inside the mountain. When the discussion was pulling the top off SM and ripping everything out it seemed less likely to stay open, but for an 8 month refurb I don't honestly see how they cane make real wholesale changes like that.
I imagine during the times they're futzing with the part -right- alongside the TTA it might close for a week or two stretches, but probably not the whole 8 months.

there's still nothing listed on the official Operational Updates page about a SM refurb. Un;ess it's officially announced by Disney, I take all unofficial reports with a grain of salt...

I honestly think if they announce anything it would happen after Aug. Disney would probably not want to have SM down during the busiest time of the year, which is the summer months (May-Aug). My guess is they could start in September and get it done in April. My feeling is the news on this will break if it's a true rumor in a couple of months.

As of 2:15EST today, the official WDW site has Space Mountain closed from April 19 through the end of July. They don't list after July, so I don't know when it will reopen. They also list the TTA being closed for the same period.
