It was great having them on WDW property instead of some place in Kansas or some other off-beat location. The Contemporary was just made for it.
The Contemporary has been my least favorite to stay in, especially after staying in it back in 1999 or 2000. We were in the wing that was torn down to make way for the Bay Lake Tower and the room was terrible. It did not feel at all like a Disney resort and I couldn't have been happier to see them tear it down. As for the main building, I have never been a fan of how hectic it is with the grand concourse and the monorail noise. I like to be in a nice peaceful quiet place when I get ready to call it a night. I prefer my resort to be the place where I go to escape all the craziness of the parks. The Contemporary for the most part is not that.

Believe it or not, you can't hear any of that from inside the room. I know the wings you were talking about and they weren't good. I think they were built in the late 70's/early 80's and were built cheaply. I was glad to see they got demolished.

You can't hear any of the noise from the rooms? If you're on the parks side can you hear the fireworks? Does Disney pipe in the theme music for the fireworks into the rooms?

You can see the fireworks and hear them boom, but - no - they do not pipe in the music from the fireworks. It would be nice if they could have a channel on the TV that play the music. If you ever stay at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, they have a channel on the TV that allows you to hear the music to the water fountain show if you're watching it from your hotel room window.

You are correct about that. It was great to see that from our room when we were in Vegas in 2001. The only place where the music is pumped in for the Contemporary is the California Grill on the top floor.

Yep, I forgot about that with the Cal Grill! What month were you there in 2001? I stayed at the Bellagio in August 2001. I was thought of LV as the "Disney World for gamblers in the desert".

We've gone to Ft Wilderness and have taken the buckboard to watch Wishes. They had speakers on the beach, the music was in-sync with the fireworks. It was really cool seeing the show across the bay and reflecting on the water.

It was the end of Aug. It had to be in 20's.

As for places to listen to the Wishes soundtrack outside of MK, I believe they include Ft. Wilderness beach, California Grill, Polynesian beach, O'Hana, and Narcoossee's . There is also the cruise that you can pay to take and it will play the soundtrack in sync as you watch from the Seven Seas Lagoon.

Our favorite resort is Animal Kingdom Lodge. Love the theming, and my all-time favorite restaurant is there too (Jiko's).
Of course, it is really hard to pick a favorite; we have enjoyed all the ones we have stayed at. I really liked Old Key West, too, but the transportation is not as good there. We will be staying at Saratoga Springs this year for the first time, so we'll see if the list changes after that. One of these trips we're going to stay at The Grand Floridian too, but although it is beautiful and elegant, I doubt it will change my favorites list. Welllll...... maybe...... we'll see....

The first time we stayed at the AKL my DW cried! The bellman opened the curtains and there was a giraffe looking into our window! It was great!

Exactly, Jacca, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about! You just can't get that kind of special stuff any old place. And the whole resort is just full of special little things like that. There's just something about that place.....

Hands down the Fort Wilderness Lodge is the greatest. Then again, WVParkfan, I haven't stayed at the Coronado Springs one. I will be staying there this January though so we'll see. If it's not better though... you'll hear about it on my scathing blog review... that nobody reads anyway. :D

Port Orleans Riverside (stayed every trip since 1995), although if money way no object I'd love to stay in the Polynesian.
