But, remember that the wand on SSE is not the SYMBOL of EPCOT, it's just a "garnish" so to speak. The Hat is the official symbol of Disney/MGM studios. Also, the Wand doesn't block something that's a landmark. It's "part" of it. The Hat totally blocks the Chinese Theaterand takes away from the feel of the area

I think they should move this to the old Hunchback show area. If that thearter is still there, tear it down, pave it over, and plop the hat in there. That area is in the back edge of the park, so it wouldn't block anything.

I want them to ditch the hand on Spaceship Earth more than the hat in front of the Chinese Theater, myself...
ITA! The hat doesn't really bother me all that much personally. But then again, I had never been there before the hat so I guess I don't know any better

The hand is an eyesore, but the hat blocks the view of a great looking area. It must go!!!

Well, I'm sure most if not all of you have been hearing the latest conspiracy theory surrounding the hat; but I'll spit out for those who might not be in the know...

This is by no means official... simply rumors and you know how that goes. Word on the street is that Disney MGM Studio may soon become Disney Pixar Studio. If this were to happen, the Chinese Theater would then be torn down becuase it's considered an MGM property. Again... it's a rumor.

I would hate to lose the Great Movie Ride. Not the most thrilling ride in the park, but it's one of the things that I think truly belongs in the park. :|

Has anybody heard anything different or new regarding this rumor or other theories?

I have heard this, at least the pixar studios thing. The whole thing about the Chinese Theater is that it looks 1000 times better than the original. I just saw it yesterday while I was on the way to the El Capitan Theatre and it looked so small and less fancy. The one in WDW is much more ornate, imo.

Exactly why "The Hat" must be moved!
It's a shame to hide such a nice piece of craftsmanship and history.
Afterall, wasn't the Water Tower supposed to be the Studio's icon? I dunno anymore. :?

I say get rid of it along with Mickey's hand that sits on the Ball at Epcot. Its starting to look cluttered!

Yeah..... Mickey's hand on the Epcot ball so definately needs to go away. I miss how the ball looks computer generated when it's standing alone and lit up at night!

from what i heard disney added that because they wanted something "disney-like" to represent every park, that's when the added mickey's wand at epcot too. i just think they chose the worst location ever. even if they placed it on top of the chinese theater, as if it was on the top peak would have been a better decision than where it is now. i am afraid it isn't going away any time soon.

Ummm... like Walt Disney was around for the idea sessions of what EPCOT should looks like. Not on a single released sketch does it have a giant hand holding a wand... or a cigarette... or a shot glass for that matter. It's the future! If Mickey wants to roam around the future, then Space Mountain is the place! Leave EPCOT alone!

it's the one icon that still hasn't been attacked by the mouse. i really hope they don't mickey-ize that too like the hat and wand in the other paks. i love all disney, but i love the oringinal view of the parks.

The hat is cool and fine where it is they wont just pick it up and move it because you want them too.The sorcerer's hat represents Fantasia and Mickey Mouse! :ariel:

True, but it is DISNEY world.... not MICKEY world. There's a difference

I couldn't have summarized it better myself!! When I look back at all the pictures we've taken over the years at Epcot, the "pre-Mickey hand" SSE looks so much better. I love Mickey as much as anyone, but the only thing worse is if they had stuck a big set of Mickey ears on SSE. Uh oh, I hope that doesn't give them an idea.

Does anyone remember when the water tower with the ears, "The Earful Tower" I think it was called, was the symbol for MGM? Makes me laugh now when I remember it, and how fast they dropped it for that hat.
