For FREE!!
"For FREE" = Jacca5660 is picking up for an all-expense-paid trip for Len90 to go to WDW to ride the buses!
(Ticket to the park not included, does not include resort accomadations, and all food must be provided by the winner)
Just thought the translation was needed...

LOVE THE BUSES! They're just part of a WDW vacation to me. I love not having to drive anywhere. In the words of Ferris, So choice!

Thought Len would like this:
Was coming home from a day at Universal and spotted a bus with Rapunzel on the destination screen. At least I thought it was cool.

We saw several with Rapunzel down there as well as Belle. I'm sure you already know this MadEye, but some people might not, they put character's names on the destination screens when they are out of service. Disney does this to provide a nicer way of saying the bus is not transporting guests. The favorite one I saw said "Earning my Ears" but it switched to a resort name before I could snap a photo

The bus driver we spoke with told us the drivers have the option of what they would like to put on the screen.

Earning my ears would usually mean a driver training while a character name is actually the version of software that the buses are running for the Magic-in-Motion. Rapunzel I believe is the latest version and Belle was the one before that. I was unaware of the CM's being allowed to choose what message they displayed on the marquee.

Okay, my curiosity is getting the better of me here: how do you know these things? For a person who is not a WDW CM you know more than any WDW CM working there.

I figured Earning my Ears was someone training ~ that's why it made me smile when I saw it. I wasn't aware of the software being connected to the character names. My Mom and I were stuck for a loooooooooong time waiting for a bus at Pleasure Island one day and talked with a driver CM who was returning from his lunch break and waiting for his bus to come in. That is what he told us, that the CM's are allowed to choose what is displayed when they are out of service. He was also explaining why you would see two or three buses for the same resort all stacked up. The new dispatch system oftentimes repeats a dispatch and sends out an extra bus or two or three

Then there must bee a ton of different versions of software running all over the place because in the past week I've seen Mickey, Ariel, Belle and Rapunzel.
I've also been on a bus displaying either Mickey or Ariel when I was at the parks with a family I have since lost contact with, whose daughter can't handle crowds nonetheless a packed WDW bus. They went to WDW every weekend and befriended the transportation manager at MGM and she contacted gave us a bus to ourselves to get back to whichever park we were parked at and either of those characters I mentioned earlier were displayed.

Count me as someone who loves the buses too. It's crazy, but anytime I smell diesel fumes it reminds me of Disneyworld. My favorite memory about the buses is the multicolor flags they used to use back in the 80s. Len probably has these memorized too:

Now that is some Disney magic there ~ How fortunate is that family that they are able to have a bus to themselves to get back to the car. It probably worked in their favor that they went to the parks every weekend

I'm guessing Disney would not do that for the once-in-awhile traveler.

Oh, but then you have to drive, and negotiate traffic, and park, and shuttle to and from the parks

As they say in the spiel when you first start off on the bus, I like being able to "relax and leave the driving to them"!

Not to mention all the money it costs too - rental fees $$$, gasoline $$$, parking lot fees $$$, and valet fees $$. Yep, rental car adds up alot of $$$. Cost of the bus: priceless (yeh, it's free!).

Only thing to amend in mindflipper's post is that if you are driving a car at WDW and you are staying at a resort, then you will be able to park for free in all 4 parks. But then you have to worry about the trams and at MK you have to choose to ride a Monorail or Ferryboat to get to the park whereas you can just get a bus from your resort and bypass both. Both the buses and a rental/personal vehicle have their pros and cons. It's all a question of which is better for each individual guest.
