@NaCler:
You don't pick your corral, but you pick your finish time and that's how they assign your corral. But they do have minimums (without proof)...the whole is 5 hours. If you claim you will run it in
less than 5 hrs you need to submit a race time that verifies that.
This was part of my problem last year...when I signed up I had no idea how fast or slow I would be so I entered the max time. But after all of our training, I discovered my pace was about 4:30 faster than the max. So I was back with all the run/walkers and had to "wade" through them until I caught up with people at my speed.
The corral placings really work-they keep people of the same pace together.
It seemed like I was passing people until about mile 6.5.
Enter your real time and you will be with people of similar speed. OR...enter the minimum to try to stay one step ahead of the sweepers :)
For this upcoming race I entered a time of 5 hrs based on my current training and my time from last years WDW Half.
We'll see!! I just want to finish :D

cccmouse - Thanks for the info on the corrals. I thought they assigned you a corral and you didn't get to choose??

Day 3 - I took it easy today as I was running late from errands and wanted to give my body a break as you guys suggested. I did 2 miles in 34 minutes. So, 17 minutes/mile today. No slacking tomorrow. I may invite the wife again.
I did run the 5k last year the day before the half and they did not assign you to a corral. When they allowed everyone to move from the holding area into the starting chute, they just asked the faster runners to start further to the front in the first group. Since this is an untimed "fun run" they don't seem to take starting position nearly as serious as the longer races. I could have jumped in at the very front of the pack or at the very end...they didn't seem to care.

Ok gang...I booked my stay at POR when Disney came out with the free dining plan.
Flights booked...
Hotel confirmed...
Corral reserved...
Looks like I will be attempting 26.2 in three months!

I am still both excited and nervous, but it's all good.
My wife and me train together...she is a little slower than me, but she is as stubborn as a mule. I bet she could out distance me anyday...well anyway, we ran 14 today. We feel great!
This training plan we are on jumps your miles by two but with a recovery week in between. So you will run 14 and then go back to 10 and then jump up to 16, back to 12 etc.
All is well. How is everyone else doing...feel good? Training hard? :)

I can't wait to cross that line and get my Mickey medal!!!!

I feel great today after running 14 yesterday, so that's a plus.

Keep it up WWDRH! I've been training off and on this week due to going in early to work several days this week to cover for a sick boss. Looking forward to getting into it and training hard this week. I should be hitting a milestone this week as well. I'll keep you posted.

14.1 last week, 8 this week. So far so good!
We are on a taper for a half that we are running in two weeks. I dont care about my time or anything for that race...it's just training for me. :)
But I am glad to have a little break from the long runs for a few weeks!
How is everyone else doing?
NaCler: you ready for that 5K yet?

Great job WWDRH! I am currently running 6-10 per day 5 days per week. I ran 11 yesterday and feel like I would after running 6. My wife and I were at WDW last week and I ran 3 of the 4 mornings that we were there. One of those runs was my favorite which starts at the Wilderness Lodge and runs to and through Fort Wilderness back to the parking/check in area then loops back through the campground and back to the WL. At 7:00am it is just light enough to see, but few people are out yet. A really nice run.
In 3 weeks I will be back down for the Wine and Dine half marathon. I am not going to try to kill myself but I would like to run in the 1:50:00 range. We'll see.
Let us know how your half goes and I'll bring you back a report on the Wine and Dine half.
Keep up the training and stay healthy. Tell Mrs WWDRH to keep up the good work as well.

Yup, this almost makes me want to run...almost. You guys are doing great and I will cheer you on. But these old knees and joints aren't going to take anything beyond walking. But I do intend to start doing that in the mornings in a few weeks here. Not picking up any extra hours at the schools so I should put the "free" time I have to good use before the weather gets too bad.

I've got the SA Rock and Roll Marathon a week from Sunday. I'm using as a practice for WDWM. I want to beat my time in Housotn this year which was my first. I did 4:48. I don't think I'm going to be beating it in SA. I did a 20 miler as the last race in a prep series 2 weeks ago, and somehow strained something in the back of my right knee. I've only run 3 miles since then (last Sunday) and it hurt pretty bad. Now I just want to finish SA and take some time to heal before pushing to prep for WDWM. Here's hoping.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

Ok so I did the half in 2:21:02... just a few seconds off my goal of 2:20. But it's all good. I feel great, and like I said, this was just training for the WDW Marathon.
We have a great plan in place to build up to the longest run I will ever do!!!
We are excited...we feel great...we can't wait!
My goal remains 5:00:00 for the whole, but as long as I finish and get to take that Mickey medal home...I will call it a victory! (I will just change the subject if anyone asks how I did...lol. :D)

Thanks for asking Amy...
She did ok...she was a little slower than she would have liked but she finished!
I had to remind her a few times that this was just training for us. There won't be any nasty hills like that at WDW!
:)
No rest for us...12 this weekend.

Congrats WWDRH!

My first Half was the WDW Half...and I think I did it in 2:28 or so...so you are doing a great job! I think you will be able to hit your goal of 5 hours for WDW. The only thing that could hinder that would be stopping and walking in the parks for pictures and characters and all that. That's why my first half was only 2:28...because we made sure to take pictures at each mile marker and in front of the castle. My next half was 2:08...one I did without walking or stopping except at water stations.
