So I doubt DLR's Space Mountain is much more efficient...if it is at all.
I will say this...I got a lot wetter on DLR Space Mountain than I ever have in WDW.
Why did you get wet on DLR Space Mountain?! Did someone have a protein spill in your rocket?

hahaha!
I meant Splash Mountain!
(shuffling off to edit my post...)
I was actually going to ask if you meant the Matterhorn since the rockets there do actually make a tiny splash toward the end of the ride...
I would agree on getting super wet in DL's Splash Mountain ~ I think it might be because the logs' sides aren't as high as the ones in WDW. But I got pretty soaked on WDW Splash Mountain this past trip too

That was more to blame on mindflipper ducking than anything else I think

That's ok though, I don't melt when splashed with liquids and I did dry off...eventually

It's been one of the basic and oldest tenets of that ride since it opened in 1992.

I've seen the numbers and I'm pretty sure DL is actually higher capacity, but not by much.
Okay, quick research tells me I'm wrong, but I'm almost completely certain I've heard DL manages a higher capacity. That said, it does make sense that MK is higher.

DL probably tries to load the rockets as quickly as possible since part of their Space Mountain queue is outside in the broiling sun

As I remember DLR's Space Mountain had two tracks, and their side by side in the same loading area (the same as DLP's Mont de L'Espace as well). WDW MK as two separate loading areas, one to the left and the other to the right.

So they share the same loading track which slows down the loading time...but it means you can have more rockets on the tracks at the same time. I did like how they had a separate load area to the side for guests who needed extra assistance getting in and out. It helped things move a little faster because it didn't slow down the other guests.
As for Splash Mountain...I do remember water coming over the sides of the log in DLR...which is why I got so much wetter there. Not to mention the fact that my dad sat up front...with my sister in the back...making us heavier in the front. That always means more water on the drops!

How exactly did it work? They need to do that for more attractions. I think it's great because it helps keep things quicker, but also allows those needing assistance to take their time loading without feeling like they're slowing others down or being watched.
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

From what I could tell...if someone needed assistance they would go just ahead of the normal load area. The rocket would then be shifted to the left in a little holding zone (or they could just keep one here and use it when they have a guest who needs extra assistance)...freeing up the normal track for other rockets to go out with guests in them. Then the CMs would help the guests in the rocket...and the rocket would then shift back to the right...onto the track.
I think that is how it worked...based on what I saw. You can see the rocket held off in its own area in the picture below...off of the track.

That is a great idea. That is one of the things I liked about Toy Story Mania was the separate loading area for those needing extra time or assistance. Like many have said before, it keeps the regular queue moving and doesn't make the people that need more time feel so rushed or watched ~ like when you are loading on the buses

As you can see from Amy's photo posted above, they don't share the same track. It's still two separate tracks, side by side, so it does not slow down the loading time. Just reduces the space being consumed (at DLR, you do want you can to take up the least amount of space possible).

I like the separate load area for guests that need assistance. I wanted to take my grandmother on SM but never did because I knew getting her in and out would have been a process, she was 89 at the time lol I got her on BTM though but was easier.
But my comment on the lapbars, I don't particularly like them. I loved the free fall feeling lol but if it's keeping people inside the boats and stop delays then go for it. Although I can't remember if there have been many delays when I have been on it. Maybe a hand full but more then other rides though so perhaps that was why.

No ~ that's BIG's photo showing the handicapped loading area...unless it is just showing the second track? Now I am super confused...

I thought when I went to DL there were two tracks but online it says that WDW is the only Space Mountain with two tracks ~ ahhhhh!
