We got to ride Everest on Sunday for a film shoot, I have to say it has exceeded my expectations. The yeti is awesome. I don't want to spoil anything.rdeacon wrote:Disney has an offical website for everest:

I can't wait! I'm going in April!Well, ok, if I must. The queue is similar in feel to the Khali river rapids in that it feels somewhat like a Tibetan sort of travel company in some parts with shrines in other areas and museum type displays in other areas. It's very cool. It starts with a small incline which then brings you in a circle outside the mountain through some cool landscaping that will look even better once it's grown in. You then get on a large incline which feels a little like the Big Thunder Mountain. You climb up through the tall mountain building section where a large rendition and shrine of the Yeti is. There's smaller shrines and references to the Yeti all throughout the queue elevating the mystique of the legend and foreshadowing an inevitable encounter. Outside of the mountain and up close the detail is fantastic. You then start moving around through the mountain with mist all around you and up into the outside top center of it where you see an owl or an eagle maybe and the tracks are broken in front of you. There are Yeti (Bigfoot) foot prints in the snow. You stop for a moment and then travel backwards through the mountain in pitch black for a while. You then stop again inside the mountain and see projected onto a cavern wall the shadow of an enormous Yeti landing on a track and tearing it up. You then move forward again as the shadow growls. You go down the largest drop from there back outside the mountain and then back in. This is where you encounter the Yeti in all his glory. It is a tremendous animatronic above you similar to the Dinosaur towards the end of that ride. He is hanging onto the rocks in this cavern and swoops down toward the coaster giving you the impression he might just snag you up right out of it. It's really cool. His fur moves all around really well and he's various colors of brown almost like Sweetums from the Muppets 3D movie only more realistic looking. Then you come back out of the mountain safely and return to the station. Of course you exit into a gift shop loaded with exclusive Yeti merchandise and Mt. Everest books and videos and stuff. There some really cool hats, towels, stuffed dolls, etc.

The new site went up Monday, still haven't had time to explore it. Tip to all who are walking by - ask the CM for more info and they should hand you a business card from the expidition company with the website and yeti sighting warnings...

I rode it and I'll say it's a good ride but the effects are nothing special (or at least nothing you haven't experienced at your local Six Flags). It's on the short side and the best part (the Yeti) is barely there.

Yay! I'm not the only one!QuickGold wrote:I rode it and I'll say it's a good ride but the effects are nothing special (or at least nothing you haven't experienced at your local Six Flags). It's on the short side and the best part (the Yeti) is barely there.

My best explanation is that it's Thunder Mountain Railroad if you had to stop three times during the ride to see a mediocre special effect.

It's officially opening April 7th I believe so I think you should have no problem riding it. It will probably still be open before April 7th with some soft openings.simplecomp wrote:Hi, were going in April (1st-12th), will this be open or still occasionally to passholders??? thanks
It wasn't bad or anything, I just wasn't that impressed with it. It certainly does have a little too much BTMRR inspiration in it but it's not all that.SpringheeledJack wrote:Yay! Agreed. I think it's a great ride, but one that doesn't appeal to me over a long haul. Sort of like Mission: Space. It's nifty the first time or two, but there's really no point in going on it again after the initial thrill has worn off. With roller coasters, there's always an adrenaline rush that makes it a blast to go on over and over again, and I just didn't feel that way with this one. It's an... experience more than anything, I guess.

Yes, I've often compared it to M:S. M:S had alot of hype when it first opened with everyone claiming it was the best ride ever. And now you can walk on most days and we can all agree its good but not great.SpringheeledJack wrote:Agreed. I think it's a great ride, but one that doesn't appeal to me over a long haul.
