Monorail shop is located behind the Magic Kingdom. It is on Center Drive just past the World Drive/Floridian Way intersection. On the top floor 10 monorails can be housed. On the bottom floor all the Walt Disney World Railroad trains are all parked. To the east of this is the where all the Magic Kingdom area ferries/boats are housed. If you want, I can include a picture of the building that I took during our journey on the bus behind the MK. Also there is a spare spire for Cinderella Castle in the lot at around 5082 World Drive.
You're a wealth of information Len! I would love to see the picture. Can this be seen only if you have a rental car?! I've never noticed this before. Is that b/c we only take Disney transportation?!

No this is actually on restricted roads that nobody is supposed to go down. We only got to see it because it was the route that they were letting the third party buses use to get from the Grand Floridian to the Magic Kingdom. You can not see this if you rent a car since these are roads that nobody is supposed to go down. Besides all the backstage facilities, there are the MK employee parking lots, a firehouse, and the back entrances to the Magic Kingdom visible. One I noticed by the back of Toontown and another is by the back of Space Mountain. I'll include some pictures when I get them all sorted out.

Do they actually have the roads blocked? I remember as a kid, my dad got lost (or went exploring) and we ended up back there. This was many many years ago, so I don't know if they increased security and put in guard houses. If not, I am sure you could claim to be lost Boilerbabe if anyone stops you.

There were no present guards that I saw, but there was a lot of buses using the roads that day so they may have tried and hide the security. The roads leading to backstage Magic Kingdom do have road blocks. However do remember that Disney has cameras all over. I am sure they are always watching them. You cancalways claim you are lost, but there are a lot of signs...

I know, this was nearly twenty years ago. A lot has changed at WDW in the last twenty years.

Well for those that are interested; I have gone ahead and posted a couple of pictures of the Monorail Garage. If you look closely on the bottom floor in one of the garages you can see a locomotive for the Walt Disney Railroad. These are the only trip pictures I have uploaded. The rest will come.... eventually!
Picture 1: More of a side view of the first half of the building. This is how it is seen from the intersection
Image
Picture 2: Shows the entire complex

Pictures 3 & 4: Show a head on shot. Note the green light on for the left most beam on the right side of the building. I believe this is the garage that Pink was supposed to park in the night the incident happened. Also you can see one of the trains parked on the bottom floor. For these reasons I did upload this one a little bigger (640x480).

The circumstances for me finally getting to see that building were unfortunate. However, it was finally nice to be able to see something in person that I have up until that point only seen one picture of on the internet and via satellite images. I am glad you all enjoyed those pictures of the monorail shop. Maybe one day I'll figure out how to get inside! :D
I did also see the damaged monorails. I have pictures that just show the wall and the two monorails, but I feel they are not proper to post.

Either become a Monorail Pilot ( ) or go on the WDW Railroad tour. And no, the pic of the two Monorails would definitly not be proper to post. Heck, that same morning I was driving on World Drive past the TTC and could see them both just sitting there. That was enough for me...

Exactly, it really brought a tear to my eye to just see the ends of the two monorails sitting there. I took one picture from the shuttle bus even though it was stopped right in front of the scene for a good 5 minutes. It was nice to see Disney try and cover up the accident scene, but it was still pretty traumatic to just see the two monorails sitting in the Epcot station at the TTC
