Re: Toy Story Mania
I'm not sure if it's too heavy actually, the system is pretty big since they have a lot of servers going to keep track of everything, but that isn't something impossible to scale I would imagine. They may be happy that people are stuck in that line for so long rather than it being empty, I think it might be an expensive ride to run or has a lenghty opening since it isn't always open at DCA when the park opens.

Re: Toy Story Mania
The problem with TSMM is that it is not a fluid ride as you move through it. It moves...then you stop for 30-45 seconds or so at each game. This means you don't have a steady stream of guests loading at all times. I do think if they had the ability to double the ride capacity it would speed things up.
There is just a huge rush on FPs as well as lots of people in the queues...and it seems a bit disproportionate compared to ToT and RnR...because even though those rides aren't new and fresh...they are still awesome. It's like everyone is told at the gate that they need to immediately go get a FP for TSMM and that they need to ride it or their lives will be over.

Re: Toy Story Mania
I have ridden this a few times and enjoy it. What gets me is the large groups that send one person for tickets. This last February there were a gaggle and believe me you could only call it that. There were three groups of about sixty in each from one company one had light blue bags one dark blue and the other a purple colour all teenagers, now I have to say these groups usually do not descend on one park but they did this day and it was DHS.
We went to get a FP for toy story and met one of the guide leaders walking away with his whole groups no FP left, well we thought we'll nip down and get one for RNR not a flaming chance we met the other group leaders there, again none left, we gave up and went to Epcot we could see how the day was going to pan out with long lines everywhere.
Don't get me wrong I have no aversion to these large groups going to WDW and I'm always there for the Cheerleadering Nationals which is part of the reason we go when we do. The High school dancers and cheerleaders do not behave like this, yes there are a lot of them but they all stand in line or get their own FP's if they can do it so can the large groups.
I suppose what I am really saying is if you want to ride the ride get your own FP and it should be enforced.

Re: Toy Story Mania
Actually, disney has encouraged that behavior. Since the machines don't physically requie each ticket holder it is encouraged (required for world of color) to only send one person with all the tickets to get the passes. The benefit is that your group stays together and you don't clog up the area.
Re: Toy Story Mania
True. The only reason we send two is because my work ID is what I use to get my FPs and I don't trust my dad to take it off when he goes to collect the TSM ones.Wizzard419 wrote:Actually, disney has encouraged that behavior. I personally prefer this one over Space Ranger Spin but the 3D bothers me at times.

The problem with this is when you think "Ok cool, I'm next in line for a FP, then the person in front of you takes all that's left in the machine." It's a tease.Wizzard419 wrote:Actually, disney has encouraged that behavior. Re: Toy Story Mania
Hopefully you would notice that they've been at the machine for 10 mins and haven't left yet.
The one odd thing about WoC's fastpass setup is that you never physically interact with the machine, you give your tickets/passes to a worker at the machine (one for every FP machine) and they insert each ticket themselves and hand you the passes. I'm not sure if it's a means to keep the groups together or what.

Re: Toy Story Mania
Maybe that somehow keeps people from abusing the system...although I don't know how that would happen.Wizzard419 wrote:Hopefully you would notice that they've been at the machine for 10 mins and haven't left yet.

I too, get frustrated when I get into a FP line and get stuck behind someone who is getting a bazillion FP when I really only need one FP

Embrace your inner sociopath, punch them at the back of the head, right where the spine meets the skull, and while they are down, collect your ticket.
Problem solved.

Re: Toy Story Mania
I love the good ole TSM fast pass rush at Studios. Nothing like the early morning fast walk/jog and possibly getting trampled by the masses behind you.

Heh, this is the second comment I've seen from you that I've been amused by (the other was about Pocohontas). You have a wry sense of humor:).Wizzard419 wrote:Embrace your inner sociopath, punch them at the back of the head, right where the spine meets the skull, and while they are down, collect your ticket.

Re: Toy Story Mania
Personally, I really do like the rush to TSM in the morning. I have ridden it before, and while I do enjoy it, it is not something that I HAVE to do on each and every vacation. The reason I love the rush to TSM is because my party (usually just my wife and sometimes sister-in-law) can ride RnR and ToT as many times as they want for almost the first 30-45 minutes the park is open. Of course, we always go in mid May, so the crowds are very reasonable, but we do the same at DAK...people rush to Kilimanjaro Safaris for the ride and FP, so we go to Asia and they ride EE at least 4 or 5 times, then we head to Dinoland and ride DINOSAUR a few times. We can get almost the entire park done before the lines really start to back up. The more people that flock to the other side the better.ctrain2281 wrote:I love the good ole TSM fast pass rush at Studios. Our Strategy:
As soon as the park opens we head straight for the ride, get fastpasses, then ride the ride. At that point the line is only 20-30 minutes long. Then when we get off, because it's early enough we are able to grab another set of fastpasses. This method allows us to ride it 3 times in one day and only have to wait in line once for maybe 30 minutes. Try it.
