Actually most people I know do not like either one. I am a huge star wars fan, and most of my friends make fun of me because of it. Most females I am friends with do't liek either one, but they have all done star tours adn the stunt show and liked it. Time will tell if this attraction makes the grade.

but most people know the storyline regarding those series, and while some people dislike them, there are ingrained into our culture....who will remember idol 10 years after then last episode?

plenty of people will, look at one of the highest selling artists of the year, Daughtry...and a little girl from Texas, Kelly Clarkson, she is huge! Whenever they are mentioned AI is always thought of. There are some huge stars now from that show, Carri Underwood is reat too!

In my opinion as long as an average Joe has a shot of making it big through the process of a television show, American Idol will not go down. Its become an American staple, and I see it running with the same amount of success for years to come. While I am not an Idol fan, this attraction is perfect in stealing some of the thunder away from the upcoming attractions in Islands of Adventure come 2009.

The next dagger would be if Magic Kingdom is indeed remodeling Space Mountain for summer 2009 like rumors have stated...

I will probably skip this attraction but can see why many people might enjoy it since the show is so popular.
This is another interesting point. Now we've potentially knocked out international visitors and old people (well ... people who are too old by the rules, myself included  ). Something about the whole 'you get a guaranteed audition if you win' thing doesn't add up to me.

I believe it stated it was a "stadium audition" and not a TV audition - whatever that means. I was unclear as to the distinction. But there was a quote saying that everyone would be treated equally for the purposes of the TV show.

I don't know enough about the AI audition process to know if that makes any sense at all. I'm just saying WDW may not be bound by any of the restrictions of the show. In fact, I'm willing to wager one shiney nickle it won't be.

To be honest, I am sooooo sick of American Idol, I wish it would end already! So I wouldn't bother to go see it :?

Well as far as I understand it, the 'regional stadium audition' is the part where you wait in the big long line to get screened to see if you can progress to see Paula et al. It's supposed to be a 'reserved spot' that you're winning, so you can definitely get at least that far, instead of having to worry about showing up early enough to get a spot in line. Equally for the purposes of the tv show, I believe, means just because you win at WDW doesn't mean jack or squat for getting on the show or wowing the 'real' judges.

I'm not an AI expert (in fact, I don't watch the show) but that's the interpretation I've seen thus far. That suggests to me that in order to win the big prize at WDW and go to the 'regional auditions', you'd need to fit the AI rules. It wouldn't stop them from giving you a consolation prize if you don't meet the requirements, though; I'm just curious as to what that'd be. Actually I'm not even all that curious; I don't care for myself. I just find it interesting they'd make an attraction where you can win stuff that potentially excludes a lot of visitors. *shrug*

Edit: Further to this, actually, I'm listening to last week's DIS Unplugged now and they're saying the competition is open to guests 14 and up, but since the AI rules are 16-24, if you're not in that age range and you win, you can transfer your prize to a friend or family member (or save it for later, if you're under 16). So I guess they'll leave the Disney competition open, but if you're 43 and win you just have to give your pass away. Doesn't say anything about international guests. They also say you're not allowed to sell them either, so no ebay. Interesting to see if that pans out.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think it's going to be pretty fun!

That's the spirit :D I'm withholding judgment until it opens but I'm cautiously optimistic

i'm not a big fan of the show so i don't think it would interest me, but on the other hand it would probably be very exciting for the people who really enjoy the tv show

Boy, it's the opposite where I come from. I don't like Star Wars, and everyone else loves it! (I like Indy though, and so does everyone I know!)

As for American Idol, I want a puking smiley too!
