Does this even bother anyone else or am I being overly critical?
I didn't notice it in December but I imagine I will now in October. Hopefully they'll fix it before then, though. Disney Landscaping tends to be pretty sharp as a business unit. I imagine it bothers them too. I'm with Esmeralda; I spent too much time marveling at the Lack o' Wand in December to notice the trees were wonky. No excuse for them being that way, though.

I don't know if I mind the trees growing up over the legs as much. Walt said he wanted the parks to become more beautiful as time went and the growth of the trees was one of the things he cited. I have to admit in that picture, though, they look a little shaggy. I think they could grow taller and still be neatly shaped.
Isn't it about time for them to change the lighting again? It's been the same for the past 10 years. I'm pretty sure when I was young I remember the sphere either changing colors during the night or simply being different colors than what it is now.
I miss the shifting colors too, though I don't really mind that they have special lighting for special events (like that one picture you linked). I think it should always look pretty and I wish they'd bring back the shifting, but if they want to make it look extra special for various holidays, I'm okay with that. All the more reason to 'collect' visits at all the holidays. ;)

I'm finally able to listen to the new audio for Spaceship Earth (with Judi Dench). I'm surprised at how 'the same' it all really sounds as far as scenes go. Somehow, I was expecting an overhaul...

What's it look like on the inside?

haha... I found this video of SSE that only a Disney Nerd would find hilarious. Needless to say I laughed out loud. I think it's the voice and the way it states the obvious.

(No big spoilers, most of the ride gets fast forwarded. Some footage of the touch screens, but no music or narration, just "Aunt Petunia's" commentary.)

that video is very funny. I still wish they would just leave the classics alone. There was no reason to change it.

*giggle* "Look, we're hovering around the city!"

It's really a shame that there's anything laughable about the new version of the ride. All the points 'Petunia' makes are valid, too. The ride dialog is incredibly dumbed down, to the point it seems almost condescending, and the animation they use for the end bit does look like cheap Flash animation (whether it is or not).

Hopefully the ongoing tinkering Jacca mentioned will someday lead to a decent finished product.

I could hardly imagine a person from the civilized world being the slightest bit impressed with that ending. If they're going to cheap out and stick a pointless monitor in a ride ("Sure, we could provide an amazing real life experience, but why not watch this boring cartoon instead?"), the video should have at least been impressive.

I suppose there's always the opportunity to improve the experience...some sort of advanced Horizons-like ending where you use the screen only as an input device and provide an experience you can't get at home in the actual ride area could be good. Even so, if the content of the menu doesn't improve dramatically, it's still going to be really lame.

That was quite possibly the funniest review of any ride I've seen.

I just thought of an idea to move along the removal of the monoliths...
-giggle-

We all start going to the park bringing holy books and necklaces and kneel and pray in front of them for a few minutes whenever we enter or leave the parks. Maybe if we get enough people to do this, Disney will get bad publicity and remove them  .

edit... also, i didn't know where else to put this, but i remember a while back schnemo mentioned the 1986 "Space Station" at the top of spaceship earth... well, here's three pics i found that show parts of the space station - pobably still there today.

Wow, it's like they probed my brain and took photos of the memories as they're fading away.

And how metaphorical is it that they simply painted over something cool to pretend it's not there!

Thanks for posting those.

OMG OMG OMG I just had a flash back. Totally awesome, are they still there? Just covered by paint? I was so young at this time. But I do remember it. Thanks Cheshire.
