Congrats Sleepy! It seems once you start running, you never want to stop...especially if there is a Disney medal at the endSleepy90 wrote:Now there's an offer guys your own personal paramedic not many runners will have that.BenB wrote:I'm an EMT. I will be behind you all the way don't forget to post your numbers so we can follow you on your adventure.![]()
On a side note but not unrelated I will be attempting my first half marathon in 11 days. Training is going well I am up to 11 miles not fast but within the limits for WDW my ultimate goal is that Mickey medal ( who knows if I will ever make it) but that is in the future I have to get through this half first.

I'd walk it too, if you could!!! I love to walk, can't run anymore....asked my dr. about jogging again( used to in high school) he said I'm too old! Even if I BELIEVED that comment, which I don't ,my knee isn't quite up to jogging anymore anyway!!Amy wrote:Yeah, not gonna happen. Re: 2013 WDW Marathon
thanks for the encouragement sleepy90!!! I don't believe I'm too old to do anything!!! My body tells me otherwise sometimes though!!! My knee isn't always in the best shape,so I just walk everyday, kinda thought jogging would help with weight maintance though. So , I asked and got a bad response, won't ever ask my dr. a question like that again!! Your only as old as you feel!! I feel like I'm still in my 20's so it's all good!! I've learned not to let people's opinions get to me anymore!!Sleepy90 wrote:What a load of twaddle brerrabbit I am knocking on the door of 50 and I started for a charity run last year and never looked back.brerrabbit1 wrote: I'd walk it too, if you could!!! I'll be one of the first to sign up in the walking marathon!!Amy wrote:Your doctor seriously said you were too old to jog? That's not very nicebrerrabbit1 wrote:I'd walk it too, if you could!!! Walk away though ~ and we'll be in full force when they let us walk the marathon

I wish they would make a 5k walk or something like that. Whenever there is a fundraising walk/run it is usually 5k and a lot of people enjoy walking. I bet the number of people who sign up would be crazy.brerrabbit1 wrote:I'll be one of the first to sign up in the walking marathon!!Amy wrote:Your doctor seriously said you were too old to jog? Re: 2013 WDW Marathon
But that is still a 5K run right? The timing probably wouldn't allow someone to walk the distance without being swept off the course...kcarts wrote:There is a 5K that Friday, January 11.PurpleFairies wrote:I wish they would make a 5k walk or something like that. Re: 2013 WDW Marathon
The 5K has a 16 minute per mile pace requirement. That comes out to about 49 minutes for the entire race. So while you can walk it...you'd have to keep moving the entire time.

1986: Offsite
1997: Offsite
2001: Coronado Springs
2008: Shades of Green / Saratoga Springs (WDW Half Marathon)
2009: Port Orleans French Quarter (WDW Half Marathon)
2010: Port Orleans Riverside (Honeymoon)
2011: Old Key West / Bay Lake Tower
2014: Kidani Village
2015: Old Key West (5th Wedding Anniversary)
2016: Old Key West (Kids' first WDW vacation in December!)

Re: 2013 WDW Marathon
That would leave me out. I'm (pretty) sure I could keep to a 16 minute mile, but I couldn't resist stopping and taking photos of behind the scenes and the characters!theBIGyowski wrote:The 5K has a 16 minute per mile pace requirement. Re: 2013 WDW Marathon
From the RunDisney site:
The Disney Family Fun Run 5K is a non-timed event that features:
•5K course through Epcot®
•Disney Entertainment on-course
•Event Weekend Transportation for Walt Disney World® Resort guests
Then it states that you must keep a 16 minute mile. How can it be untimed if you have to keep a specific time???
I am definitely signing up for the 5K this year. Will do it this weekend.
