So where are you staying on your next WDW trip?

JKM, we're staying BWI for ESPN weekend. I'll try to remember to post pictures while I'm there. It's our first time there too, and I'm really looking forward to it. We love the Yacht Club, so I'm worried DH won't like BWI as he'll be staring out the room at 'his home.'
CMC - really want to try OKW, but can't seem to get there. Looking forward to your trip report!

I just wanted to chime in...
We just got back from WDW & we stayed at our favorite resort, Port Orleans Riverside (the old Dixie Landings.)
Well let's just say that we will not be staying there again. I don't know if it was when they "refurbished" the resort, but it seems that they replaced the queen size beds with full size beds.
Not a big deal to some people, but we have a queen size bed at home & so we felt scrunched in the smaller bed.
We tried to get a room upgrade to a king size bed (the only other size there) & "all 4 suites were booked". I don't know if she was kidding when she said that there were only 4 king size suites in the whole resort... but we were disappointed.
Keep this in mind when booking your next vacation (as our expectations were not met).

What did the CM say about that . . . are they changing all the beds from queen to full's in all the resorts? If so, there'll be ALOT of unhappy campers.future-imagineer wrote:I just wanted to chime in...

I can understand putting full size beds in a "value" resort, but this is supposed to be a moderate resort. I also remembered that there used to be much nicer (custom perhaps) furniture. The only other thing I noticed is there was a lot of extra space next to the beds.
Am I the only person who has had this experience? I just can't believe that they have downgraded what they offered.
If the stars are in alignment for me... I will be moving to Celebration, FL very soon & I won't ever stay in a resort again (well except for the Floridian when I get married)

I've been to WDW 8 times in 9 years and have never seen Celebration. Is it a grand as they all say? Is being there like an extended "magic" of staying on Disney property?future-imagineer wrote:If the stars are in alignment for me... Hmmm... I suppose it depends on who you talk to, but I don't find it all that spectacular. It's neat because they have "snow" there around Christmas, but I definitely wouldn't go so far as to say it's really magical. It's not even remotely "Disney" (I don't even think it's owned by Disney, anymore), and it's kind of creepy to think they hire people to walk around with dogs to make it feel more "home-y". It reminds me of a Stepford community, actually.
I remember watching the news a couple of years back, and there was this huge scandal over someone sticking pink flamingos in people's yards (A big no-no, as the homeowner's association is very strict about what your yard HAS to look like). That's when I stopped complaining about MY homeowner's association.
The houses ARE really nice there, all of which are basically mansions designed around a theme. They're all wildly expensive (even the condos), though, and the idea of living in a "town" where you're basically a part of a living tourist attraction would be a little freaky, I'd imagine.

Celebration is the ultimate in "planned" communities. Everything is almost surreal (kind of like the movie the Truman Show" with Jim Carrey. I've never heard about any people being paid to walk their dogs, but there was a guy who got in trouble for adding a lawn ornament & was fined. In retaliation, he bought like a hundred pink flamingos and put them on all of his neighbors' lawns.
Personally, I like the surreal atmosphere... as I say "I don't care what you do inside your house, but I DO care about the outside of your house!"
Celebration is litterally 5 minutes from Disney World & has everything from Mansions to Cottage Houses to Condos. I've been looking at condos & they are about $300,000 for 1,500 square ft unit. I'm banking on the "bubble bursting" within the next few months... just in time for my purchase. (Currently there is 166 homes/condos for sale - the supply outweighs the demand, so I'm hoping for some lowering of prices.)
Last, but not least... how may people outside of a major metropolitan city can say that they have had books written about them, songs sung about them, or have been studied as being the future of community planning? Celebration can! 8)

You arent far off the mark.. They filmed most of The Truman Show there.SpringheeledJack wrote:Hmmm... I suppose it depends on who you talk to, but I don't find it all that spectacular. Going to give the Beach Club a try our next trip--April '07. Anyone ever stayed here? I'm used to the more rustic surroundings of Wilderness Lodge, so I'm not sure I'll like is as much, but we need a change, and I hear the pool is awesome. We'll see...
