Agreed, I remember Africa, but lets be honest, there wasn't much there. It took up no space at all. It almost was a small link at the end of a bridge. What has gone in at the location of the Millennium pavilion? There is possibly enough space there but obviously pushed back more.

Oh, the little shopping area that reps (if i recall) Africa and I think some of the Islands? That's between China and Germany, and there is space there (looking at it from google maps). It looks like just enough space for a pavillion and they would probably develop it if any country wanted to spend the money. I know how they talk about how the WDW property has loads of space, which it does, but it doesn't seem to mean that the space is free just outside the parks. Like with the world showcase, you can see it on google maps, just beyond it there is a service road, a waterway, a main roadway, and resorts. I'm actually surprised how much they built up around the resort to the point that it wouldn't be cost effective to make the park larger.

Actually, it's not referred to Africa at all. It's listed as "Refreshment Outpost" with no country whatsoever attached to it.

Make sense since Africa is a continent and there are so many countries in it and all.

I thought it was call "Here is merchandise that doesn't fit anywhere else in the showcase."figmentaholic wrote:mindflipper wrote:Actually, it's not referred to Africa at all. It's listed as "Refreshment Outpost" with no country whatsoever attached to it.

Oh, by no means is there any room to make a good pavillion, but there is enough room to make an average one with either no attraction or one that isn't that interesting (kind of like Italy and Germany).
I think of the drink/merch selling location as "The World Showcase's black friend to show it is totally into all cultures"

Then again they could always do some kind of underground attraction that would allow this to be narrow and stack.

If I recall, it being Florida, underground is kind of out of the question because of the watertable. Hence why MK is built on top of the utilidor rather than the utildor being build under the MK... if that makes any sense.

Actually, if you loook at some of the aerial photograph of World Showcase, you will see the plots of land between the country pavilions are about the same amount of space as the pavillions themselves. It was the original intention to fill in all those empty spots.

Indeed they are, but some are built up more than others. Still, I'm leaning towards the notion of future additions to the world showcase being a dead venture, like attraction sponsorship, since the purpose was to expose you to the culture and draw you to the real homeland and all. It was great in the 80's and 90's, but now the internet is able to provide a more up-to-date picture that can be tailored to your own tastes.

There had been talks about expanding already existing countries, but even those projects have fallen by the side as the years have passed on: Mt. Fuji at Japan (based on the DLR Matterhorn), the Matterhorn at Germany (based on the namesake at DLR too), the UK expansion (presumably London to counter the rural village area that currently exists), and the Ginsu Night District at Japan.

Re: Brazil coming to EPCOT? Unconfirmed reports
I don't know if that was ever truely part of the plan for Italy. I think the gondolas were always meant to be decorations. They had no canals as part of the design for the pavilion, and they could not go around in the lagoon without being a hazzard to the friendship boats that dock nearby between Italy and Germany.theBIGyowski wrote:don't forget about the gondolas in Italy!
However, I do note that when they built DisneySeas over at TDL they did build the canalways so they could have gondola rides (reminds me of the Venetian in Las Vegas, but the Venetian's is all indoors).
