Oh, the abuse I am talking about also means that disney doesn't get a cent (since they would probably charge for said service)

They don't charge now for FastPass whereas Universal Studios does for the ExpressPass, which has a price that escalates as the availability becomes more limited.Wizzard419 wrote:Oh, the abuse I am talking about also means that disney doesn't get a cent (since they would probably charge for said service)

Re: Reserve ride time from home?
The biggest concern I have about this are the big rides. Toy Story Mania FastPasses "sell out" BEFORE noon now. If people can reserve FP at home, I would hate to get into DHS @ 10am and see the FP already gone for the day!
Maybe Disney is planning on having a limit where you can only book one FP per Day per Park???

I'm guessing that since they are sinking money into the program they are going to charge some premium for the service/tack it onto existing resort prices.
I could just imagine how awful it would be that popular attractions run out of passes right after opening.

You might be right about them starting to charge...which means the end of my FP. I won't pay more on top of the ticket priceWizzard419 wrote:I'm guessing that since they are sinking money into the program they are going to charge some premium for the service/tack it onto existing resort prices.mindflipper wrote:They don't charge now for FastPass whereas Universal Studios does for the ExpressPass, which has a price that escalates as the availability becomes more limited.Wizzard419 wrote:Oh, the abuse I am talking about also means that disney doesn't get a cent (since they would probably charge for said service)

That's exactly what I was thinking too. Another potential form of abuse (if they even do the smart phone part - the article just mentioned reserving at home) is people claiming they are in larger groups to get extra fastpasses. For example, a couple reserves fastpasses for their "family of 6", giving them 3 sets of tickets to use. To prevent that, they would have to link it to your tickets/room or change it where your family gets one fastpass that gets everyone on the ride.mindflipper wrote:How would that stop families with more than one smartphone? Mom could get ride reservations for the entire family on Ride A while the Father gets ride reservations for the entire family on Ride B - for the same time! This could create that abuse that Wizz is warning about.
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

It would have to be linked to your AP or pass and tied in with park entry. I just don't see this working very well with the state of technology. It wouldn't be like Disney to do something "STUPID",.. would it??Polynesian Princess wrote:That's exactly what I was thinking too. You're talking about a massive change to all their systems, hardware and software. I can't see this being anything that can be done in the short-term (next 3 years min).

Anything can be done in the short term, you just have to pony up the cash/allocate the resources.
I can't see them phasing out the present version of the FP system either, but if they don't charge for this service then they are shooting themselves in the foot by filling a need that wasn't there (or at least in any strong demand) and having to fund it. If they keep the free fp and then add in a premium version it would probably not fare as well since people will gravitate to the free one.
