AKL for sure. Nothing beats looking out your balcony at a giraffe first thing in the morning.

I'd like to say the AKL too, but I've never stayed there, unfortunately. I usually end up staying at Old Key West. I've also stayed at Saratoga Springs. However I'm going to have to say Old Key West. I just have too many memories from that place. Hopefully when I get my own place soon and my g/f and I have a stable income I'll get down there again and stay at another awesome resort.

That would be pretty awesome, alas I have never had the funds to stay at a deluxe resort. *sigh*, maybe some day :)

You just have to watch for the discounts that Disney puts out! Sometimes the Deluxe resorts are a greater discount than the others! That's usually the way we do it!!! And also, we try to go during a value season.

Greater discount but not cheaper overall :| But I will have to keep my eye out for bargains, we are having serious Disney withdrawal here!

Another way to stay deluxe for cheaper is to do a split stay. We just did this on our last trip so we could stay at the Polynesian - we did 5 nights at Caribbean Beach and 2 nights at Polynesian. It's easier if you have an AP or if you don't like the dining plan, but it's still doable even if you want the dining plan and don't want an AP.
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

That is a great idea but my Mom would take so long packing and moving to a new resort that it probably wouldn't be worth the savings!

DH and I did that once, we stayed at POFQ for 4 nights and the Poly for 2. Re-packing seemed more a pain than it was worth, then we were super sad leaving the Poly. But, if you just wanted to get a taste of a deluxe resort, it's a good idea.

I can't pack to save my life. Fortunately my husband is good at it, so I just stay out of his way. It does help when you're doing a split stay if you can pack with the split in mind, so that you don't pack and repack everything - 4 days of clothes in one bag, 3 days of clothes in another, toiletries and things needed at both hotels in a small bag. I can see how it could be a hassle to some, but we liked that it made it feel like two different vacations. Plus, saving $1,000 wasn't bad either.

My favorite resort is Port Orleans - Riverside and we like to stay on the Magnolia Bend side. It's the antebellum houses and it's just so "girly." I've stayed on the Alligator Bayou side too and it's fun but very "boy."

My other favorite are the Ft. Wilderness Cabins - they are private, secluded, and you really get the feel of camping outside but without all the bugs! And the luxury of an indoor shower and "facilities!" :minnie:

For a Mother-Daughter trip we love Port Orleans Riverside, Magnolia Bend. It's feminine and pretty, and very comfortable.

I used to love the Poly and the Port Orleans French Quarter.

Now, I only love the Beach Club Villas. Wouldn't stay anywhere else (unless I have to because of lack of funds or points).

We have only stayed at value resorts and I am looking forward to my trip in 2011 when we are able to 'move on up'. I'd like to skip the moderate and go directly to Beach or Yacht Clubs. On one visit to WDW, we went resort hopping and visited most of the main ones. Many of you prefer the Polynesian, but it smelled to me. Many of these resorts have all the senses going crazy and Poly sent me overboard!
