I took the family there for my birthday a few years back because I have wonderful memories of eating there with my parents when I was little on my first trip to WDW. On the other hand, it's a very rare experience for us, one that we only do about once a decade or so.

There are other wonderful character meals out there that aren't as expensive - Crystal Palace is beautiful (more beautiful than the castle, jmho) and only 1 TS. Both the buffets at Park Fare (breakfast and dinner) are fantastic. So is the Lilo and Stitch breakfast at Ohana at the Poly (although I like the non-character dinner there even more). Akershus at Epcot has princesses and also is very beautiful. Garden Grill is more low key but also fun (food is just so-so, though).

If you have an itch to eat at the Castle, you've got to just spend the money and do it, which I totally understand. I had to on my birthday, after all. But if you don't, there are lots of better and cheaper character meals to be found at Disney.
Thanks for the insight! We've been to Chef Mickey's and Garden Grill and we loved both of them, but we would like to try some new stuff next time we go. Perhaps we will wait for a special occasion to go to Cinderella's Royal Table...who knows? I really like the idea of having an early ADR for breakfast at Crystal Palace and grabbing a few castle shots with no one around!

TUSKER HOUSE is alot of fun. no mickey waffles, but more choices then most b-fast buffets. great safari ambiance. donald, daisy, and goofy dressed in foreign legion/safari style. interactive fun for the little kids as they give 'em african instruments to use in a character led kiddie parade through the whole restaurant. not to often to disrupt your meal, just nice additional fun. most importantly, the staff there is consistently the best (we hit minimally 3 b-fast buffets per trip). they are always happy, courteous, and timely. we've never tried BOMA for b-fast, love it for dinner though, probably worth a look. the only issue would be getting there w/out losing your whole morning. unless you're staying there, it's kind of a ride from any other resort. that time of the morning you'd most likely have to get to downtown disney first to hop a bus to akl, then by the time you eat and get back on track i think most of your morning would be gone. good idea if you're staying there though.
