I HIGHLY recommend staying at POR, MmeLeota, it's our family's favorite! I actually just made another POR recommendation to a friend of my dad's so I'm sort of a recruiter for this resort (they should hire me, lol).

You'll LOVE Port Orleans.
We especially enjoy the little lizards that run around outside on the parking lot in the morning.

Anyplace with tiny lizards is fun! That was one of the highlights of visiting my grandparents in Florida. All the little tiny lizards running around just daring me to catch them. I stalked them but never did catch one

We love those little lizards! They're so cute!

When we were staying at the YC and we were by the pool one of them kept camping out in my beach bag!!! He was so funny!

Y'know, most non-Florida people tend to freak about lizards...not find them cute.

I like little critters! We had a ton of little tiny tree frogs in our yard one year and I was so happy to see them, although they made mowing difficult. I would see one, hop off the tractor, scoop it up and put it in a safe spot, mow a few rows, do it again. I actually repeated this action several times. I told my co-workers at the fire dept later and they all laughed at me and told me those little guys wouldn't have been affected by the blades, they just would have hunkered down. They told me I probably caused them more distress by scooping them up and relocating them

So anyway, yeah, teeny lizards = cool

Port Orleans Riverside is my favorite moderate property. It's sprawls and it's charming.
However if you don't have a room near the front you might want to use a car to get there...it can be a long walk to breakfast!

It can be a long walk, but it's usually a nice one! I just love walking around POR in the evening and early AM.

From the descriptions of POR I've read, it does sound like it would be nice to walk through the resort. But by the time I have wandered the resorts all day, all I want is a short hop, skip, and a jump back to my bed in the evening!

I thought the same thing Amy, but after returning from a LONG, HOT, TIRING day from the parks, walking to our room was actually very pleasant. The magnolias were blooming and smelled sweet & wonderful. There seemed to ALWAYS be a horse-drawn carriage or a boat passing by. Just very relaxing atmosphere that helped you unwind before you even got to the room.

I heard a lot of good things from both resorts. We will be trying out the FQ this coming August for the first time and I'm really excited!

Port Orleans is one of my favorites. I'm especially fond of riverside in the alligator bayou, both are excellent though for a moderate. I have also had some of my best food court success at riverside, always better then mara at akl and other deluxe I have stayed at. The cast members that worked in the food court one trip were some of the best I have seen at disney, I wish it was always like that.

The CM at POFQ that greeted my family on our last trip was awesome. He had the friendliest personality and had beads for all of the little children every time they came through the doors. He even remembered us each time we came back from the parks. He's the kind of CM that would make Walt proud.

I love that kind of attention to detail!
