Spaceship Earth Refurb Details
Moderator: Moderators
just got back from getting married at the wedding pavillion and spending 2 weeks on property and one of the highlights for me, park-wise, was being able to go on the new spaceship earth the day it re-opened. As was previously stated, the animatronics were OUTSTANDING. The descent was VERY disappointing though, and gave e the feeling that it was done so to be a cheap way to maintain the ride, the end can always be changed with a computer program, not a complete revamping of the ride.
and the number one hardest thing to find in Walt Disney World is.....5 consecutive smiling children!!
"excuse me, that is NOT a designated smoking area, now would you PLEASE kindly take your fat white trash hiney OUT of MY park!! Thank you!!"

his voice was like space and time itself. dreamy and ethereal.
dame judi dench is a terrific actress but her voice has no 'magic'

I personally do not care for some of the refurb. I was able to see it during a soft opening in December.
The voice-over does nothing for me. Bring Jeremy Irons back.
The new costumes and additions to the ascent are good and I really like how the animatronics move more fluidly now. What was most disappointing was the descent. I was gutted to see SE so gutted and insead have some cheesy touch-screen display about my eating/excersize habits.

So, there is no longer anything during the descent, just the touchscreens?
(like that boy talking to the girl from japan, that is gone now? And the city that was shown spreading "communication" that went into that last tunnel with the dramatic music?)
Can't go until late 2009 (hehe we have a baby on the way in 90 days!) so I am just trying to visualize it.

Rant on SSE foliage and lighting...
I have to bring up something that has been botehring me for some time since the wand has been down. There is a big clump of palm trees sticking out above everything else to the right of SSE, yet there is nothing on the left (where the wand was). To me it makes the entire entrance looked unbalanced. Does anyone know if Disney is trying to fix this, by planting palm trees on the other side? (Or have they already done so? Last time I was there was December)
Also, do they even trim the foliage near the front legs anymore? The trees seem to be slowly blocking the front legs.
Does this even bother anyone else or am I being overly critical?
picture where you can see the problems I'm talking about:

Also, I found this neat picture apparently taken on New Year's Eve. I wish they would light it like this every night at least for a few minutes...

Isn't it about time for them to change the lighting again? It's been the same for the past 10 years. I'm pretty sure when I was young I remember the sphere either changing colors during the night or simply being different colors than what it is now.
Doesn't Siemens work with lighting? They did an awesome job on the trees (of all things
)...

P.S. I just realized that a casual WDW visitor (i.e. a normal person) would probably read this post and think I'm insane for even talking about the trees around SSE.
I guess I just really miss the old look.

That looks very cool!!

That's a cool lighting scheme on SSE. They should do that all the time like on the castle during the fireworks.

This is totally off topic, but Cheshie do you have any other pics of SSE with that amazing lighting? I'm looking for a horizontal picture to make into a skin for my laptop here at work and that looks so futuristic and amazing!
I agree that the globe looks unbalanced now, but I'm just so happy the wand is gone that I didn't really notice. My bigger complaint is still the gravestones, but I've gone on enough about those.
On topic, I wasn't sold with the new "Jetson's" part of the ride. Hope it gets better or changes with time.

Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

TWO WORDS: MAINTENANCE NIGHTMARE!! If you didn't like it the first time you rode it, ride it again, it changes all the time. It's still a work in progress. I can't say anymore, but I think there are going to be a few surprises with this ride. The descent was VERY disappointing though, and gave e the feeling that it was done so to be a cheap way to maintain the ride

At first I thought the lighting was just steady like that, then I found the video and it's really crazy, kinetic lighting. It would be cool if they incorporated it into IllumiNations.
