Yeah I know. Whenever I take flash pictures in a dark ride I try to be very aware of people around me. I only do this if there are several empty ride vehicles in front and behind me. I know how annoying it is to have someone firing away flashes in the dark. I would never do it at a crowded time as it really does ruin the effect of something like HM or POTC.

When PotC reopened I had a horrible ride thought. the guy infront of me was Snapping away as fast as his little digital could cycle. I wanted to grab his camera and tell him he could have it back after the ride. WHat part of no flash photography didn't you understand.

I generally snap those pesky flash pictures during the last few ride throughs for the night just before they close. Most of the time they look the other way and there is virtually no one around during that time.

Yep, she is from the ride but my flash is so bright it's like daylight! I make sure nobody is behind me or in front of me so I don't ruin the ride for them.
when we went in December, I wanted to kill a few people who were taking flash pictures on some of the dark rides like HM and PotC. moreso on HM than anything. As if the audio fizzing in and out and some of the effects really showing their age, the flash pictures ruined the experience that much more.
and you'd have to make sure there's no one on either side of you (front or back) for quite a few cars, as the flash is bright and light tends to travel in all directions unless very focused..

Yeah, this ride was in need of a refurb. Last time I went through it, the audio cut in and out badly and there were lights out in various parts. I hope that they do a good job with the refurb! I am planning on visiting Disney in July, and I'll miss this ride, but at least it gives another excuse to go back again!

Yeah, I don't like it either but at the times of year I visit you can easily get right back on the ride over and over so anyone that might have been bothered by a flash could just ride it over again if it was that bad. I really do try to make sure there is little or no line before attempting this. By the way, grabbing someone's camera is a good way to lose an arm.

Yea I've shot the rides before too. And I do what you do, I go at the end of the day, when it's just me and my wife on the attraction. But this guy was on it when the line was snaking out the door! Every seat on every boat was fulled.
I have to say I've never seen a line like that for Pirates.

Oh yeah and a lot of people were probably experiencing the ride for the first time which is sad. I would never take flash pictures when it's crowded like that.

you need to be carefully taking flash pictures even when you don't have anyone else on the ride. I've seen a couple of rides that stop when people take pictures because they have light sensors and motion sensors that get triggered by camera flashes as a side effect.
Besides, its a "dark" ride. Taking Flash pictures ruins the magic. And that's what its all about anyway.

Sometimes its even possible at some of the busier attractions to literally wait on the load platform until they've already closed the doors to make sure that you have some buffers between your picture taking self and everyone else.

So, the mindset seems to be that rules are conditional based on how crowded the attraction is?

No. The rules are the rules. Just keep doing whatever it is you are doing.

In general EVERYONE at Disney world seems to think the Rules apply to everyone but them. Look at the number of people that wear Heeleys (those stupid skake/shoe things). Or snap away on dark ride/attractions or durning shows after they say PLEASE not durning the show.
Now like other have said if you are the only one on the attraction, I don't see a problem with that. Who are you distrubing, but durning shows, it can cause problems for the actors. and I've never been the ONLY one at a show.

Exactly, I don't see a problem with it while riding an attraction that is empty or virtually empty. A show is a different thing altogether and can put performers lives in danger if a flash blinds someone doing stunts or something. An animatronic figure inside of a building is completely different. I am more disturbed by the idiotic teen and pre-teen kids making stupid comments and trying to reach for the set pieces or props on rides. If a family pays $3000 for a week vacation at DW and they want a picture and have to use a flash then I don't see any problem with that. Just be aware of your surroundings and be as courteous to others as possible. All things in moderation people and we are talking vacation pictures here, not heart surgery. Lighten up.

They couldn't wait one more week to close it, I'm going on the 10th of June, it's really sad that it won't be open to ride. However, I did ride it in December and I'll get to see what it's like when I go back again next December.
