I told him he needs to keep an eye on the weather, and at that time over the weekend the track took it through Central Florida on Saturday, his departure date. Now the projections have moved it up earlier than that...

Oh no, I hope they are wrong and this does not effect Len and family. We were there in May '09 for the horrible rains, I can't imagine what a hurricane is like?!

Well, after it passes by Central Florida with its winds and rains, it heads North to do so drive-by storming for NaCler and myself...

I'm hoping it gets downgraded and only results in some much needed rain for the south. No one needs a hurricane  :(

I'll take that, as it would just result in a lot of rain and some strong winds for us. Don't think WWDRH would like that path, though.

Well, if it could bypass the Carolinas, then it could head into cooler waters as it heads North and possibly loose some steam... :?: :?: :?:

EDIT: the most recent updated projection does not differ much from the last projection at 5 PM.

I was working there in 2006 when a tropical storm came in. I did package pick up and we would usually have around 150-200 packages an hour. I'm not sure if we got that many all day.

Lucky to say that we never have been through a hurricane. We plan our trips around hurricane season. We did get the heavy rains from Irene up in New England, but did not get the wind. lots of washed out roads but not too bad... Thank God.

It's funny that you linked an image that apparently gets updated every so often...You posted this on 8-22, so I'm assuming the map still had the storm tracking through Florida at that point, but what's displaying right now is a map from 8-28 with Irene's track from the Northeastern US through Greenland. I hope Iceland made it through the storm ok!:)

I would assume that they made it through well as it was a tropical depression when it went through Maine and didn't strengthen at all as it went towards Greenland/Iceland.

Don't think it can re-strengthen without warm waters to foster it...
