Yes, this is a great point. That is the problem w/ Tom Sawyer Island and Swiss Family Robinson not to mention Honey I Shrunk the Kids - they were great movies when they came out (and Sawyer was still in school curriculum when I was a kid) but they are not very relevant to todays children b/c these kids have never seen the movies, read the books, etc.
I think these were practically blockbusters compared to Black Cauldron.
YOu know, they keep trying to revive it every once in a while. Never works....

Should be interesting to see what plans Disney wants to change. When I was there they had already gotten what appeared to be one or two foundations laid. Since then I think another one has been poured.

From what I've read, TLM and Beauty and The Beast Be Our Guest restaurant (hopefully the whole area) are still confirmed. Everything else (Princess Meet & Greets and Pixie Hollow) is probably being changed. Don't know about Dumbo but I've heard a rumor that it is still going to have its circus themed area.

Ugh, I hope they don't have a terrible carny feel to the area. Or cheap games where you have to pay $5 to ring a bottle and win a goldfish.

The beauty of Tom Sawyer Island was that it was about a child's imagination. It's not full of special effects and technology...because that's not what children want. They want a stick that turns into a sword...or couch cushions that become a fort. Walt wanted us all to use our imaginations...with a little nudge from him to get us started.
I see what you're saying, but I still think that it's a big enough area that is not hugely popular and could be redone into something better. I enjoyed playing there as a child, but if I had one day in the park with a little one, it would not be on my short list. Even if they could add a sit-down restaurant to the area or something to attract people over there, it would be in improvement IMO.
But back to the point, I wonder when we'll start hearing rumors about what the new additions to Fantasyland are. Agree about the circus theme. In theory it's good, but in practice people really don't seem to like circus/carnival themed areas - i.e. the pool area at the Boardwalk Inn or Dinoland USA

Doubt it. Like I said: Circus. Not Carnival. Not to mention the area is not going to be that big. Just a tent and the ride. Maybe some themed elements leading up to the tent but no games.
Here's the concept art from D23's announcement last year.
Note: Most of this concept is not going to make it to reality.

Sorry, circus and carnival are interchangeable in my mind...
Cool concept artwork. Is the Dumbo on the right side a super Dumbo with more flying elephants on the left? Or is it just a tricky view with all the Dumbo's landed on the right and more flying in the left than it appears?

No one knows. Time will tell, as usual.

Good point!! Tron was box office dud when it came out - and its getting a sequel more than 20 years later! And how many times have they re-made Freaky Friday?

LOL!
I had no idea that Tron was a flop until this week. I remember seeing it (perhaps on the Disney channel?) as a child. I found out b/c I picked up a copy of "Disney Wars" at the library - very interesting read.

If it were up to me, I would keep Little Mermaid, have Belle's castle built, and then use most of the rest of the land to expand Goofy's Barnstormer (and make it more intense), and expand the Tomorrowland Speedway. Then use what is left for an Aladdin ride, an Alice in Wonderland ride, and a revival of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (with updated technology) and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. It would be a blend of old-school and new-school that should please everybody.
