Re: New Fastpass System
Sorry about the spammer. There usually is someone around, however with it being a weekend and mother's day nobody is really on. I'm in the process of cleaning up the mess right now. Hang on and this will all be cleared up.Amy wrote:Amen ~ and this is one particularly prolific spammercousininmiami wrote:Excuse me.... who let the Bozo's in with shopping spam????? You are great Len ~ graduating college in the morning, clearing up the boards in the evening. Sure it was a big day for you with graduation and Mother's Day. Glad you hopped on tonightLen90 wrote:Sorry about the spammer. There usually is someone around, however with it being a weekend and mother's day nobody is really on. Re: New Fastpass System
and i am sure that the system 'sees' the rfid activity, someone trolling the halls to find the 'room' would be flagged as suspicious... also proximity/transmit power is very, very low, it was said that the key comes into contact with lock b4 admission gained, so unlikely it is that someone would glean that info and know which room is yours...

Re: New Fastpass System
Becuase the data isn't typically encrypted, the data in the key will say where it belongs. The other reason they usually have low level protection is that many systems in the park will need to use it.

Re: New Fastpass System
i would think the rfid would be only a number (the number of the key itself, and the main park systems would associate the number with what it means/assigned to... simply easier to have a master db of card #'s and associations, then to try to store info on the card chip itself

Re: New Fastpass System
The problem is that the codes are rarely unique strings as they are difficult to get metrics from so they use easy to decipher codes for the hotel, room floor/number, etc and then just add a one to the previous occupant's number for the new guest. The good/bad thing (depending on which side you're on) is that you don't need bulky hardware to spoof an rfid card like you would need to clone a magnetic stripe card.

Re: New Fastpass System
metrics can be collected from the central db, when the customer checks in the # is activated in the master db, assigned to say, POR, and has dining plan XYZ attached... they ordered y at ohanas, and q at the poolside bar, used their first day at EPCOT... all the systems in park are interconnected, and all the magstripe and scan cosed on the key to the world are kust this... a number in a DB, and that unique card number is the table key for that person... all they wopuld be doing is reusing the DB thay already have in place

Re: New Fastpass System
i agree there, all you really need is a tunable transmitter, and the rfid code attached to that particular key... but as i said before, they almost have to be touching to get enough current to xmit, so unlikely to snag that code unless you physically ran into the person holding the card with your reciever xmitter in handdstrawn9889 wrote:i would think the rfid would be only a number (the number of the key itself, and the main park systems would associate the number with what it means/assigned to... simply easier to have a master db of card #'s and associations, then to try to store info on the card chip itself

Re: New Fastpass System
since all rfid chips i have come across are inductuion-powered, and have no power source of its own...

No worries about spelling.dstrawn9889 wrote:since all rfid chips i have come across are inductuion-powered, and have no power source of its own...

Yes, the reader is what powers them and there are portible readers (commonly seen for moving POS systems, ticket verification, etc.) that have batteries so they can broadcast to power up the chip and start a handshake.

This thread has been nerd-jacked. As in, hijacked by nerds.
I don't understand much of what you're saying, until you get to induction. Then my science teacher's brain goes AHA! I know what that is!
